If you want something done right...

One of the people I do wood restoration for has a hard time getting things done right now and then. I'm being too kind. He can muck up just about anything. Recently, I refinished a pair of loudspeakers and gave him some frames and fabric, so he could make some pretty grilles for the speakers. The frames I have him were slightly oversized, so I gave him very specific instructions concerning how to trim the frames to size. Of course, he didn't follow those instructions, meaning that one "edge" is only 1/4" wide and vulnerable to breaking. In fact, one part of it IS already broken. So now, I've brought the frames home and am reinforcing the frames, as well as gluing the fabric tighter than he made it with staples. Have you ever delegated something and then later wished you'd done it yourself in the first place?

Every time that I have delegated something I have been unhappy by the result. As I am not ready to lower my expectation, I do myself.

@TheHorse This is what I do now, if the final result is not so much important I delegate.

I reckon that's how I should view it. If I don't care about the end result, delegate. If it's something I care about, do it myself.

I seek that feeling of "collaboration." But it can be hard to find.

Oh yes! I can relate to that situation.. sometimes it would be faster if I did it myself and it'd be right too!

Live and learn. But it worth it to give it a try.

In the past I realized that if I was going to delegate an activity, I had to lower my expectations for the results. If I was unwilling, then I did it myself.

Yep. I feel the same way. It's a bit frustrating in the stereo world. I'm yet to find an "equal partner."

@TheHorse Good luck with that. It's hard to find people with similar interests, let alone the same standards.

That's happened a few times. I'm very thankful now that I'm in an apartment where we have someone designated to fix things for us.

Me too. I don't deal well with things like disposals, broken refrigerators, leaky roofs, etc.

Yeah...kinda printing of memorandum and articles of association was allowed under new rules..so we printed entire thing in dot matrix, but the cover being harder cardboard, we sent it outside for printing..you know lateral inversion thing..I explained it to office boy, the boy could not explain it to the person printing...and he returned with company name on the wrong side of the thicker colored cover paper.

I've been known to be that guy too. Sometime instructions translated from Chinese into English by someone who speakers mostly Korean can be hard to follow.
