How does one respond to a "Good Night" post?

Many a morning when I log onto the social media sites and get the "good night" posts from friends about to retire and sleep, how is one supposed to respond? I normally say "sleep well" but most of them never return to their "good night" posts therefore my well wishes for their rest has fallen on deaf ears. Are they worth reading? Should we avoid the ones with "good night" in their titles? What more do they have to offer the reader other than to say "good night, I am off to sleep so I wont be around to respond to your chatter or any other rebuttal" Unfortunately we encounter this because we are all in different time zone's and with any 'good night' post they are clearly stating that they are about to sign off . . . . On the flip side of the spectrum - Good Morning posts might give me more hope of some back-and-forth debating as they are still awake and around. What are your thoughts?

How would you react if someone said (to bid good night) "May you rest in peace" LOL!

I'm not very fond of either Goodnight or Good Morning posts - they often have very little content. Love the photo.

Same as you Janet, I do not consider a goodnight or good morning post a "discussion", because there is nothing to discuss.

I find good night posts sad. I say good night to my husband. However, some people do rely on the people here for support and encouragement.

@Inlemay I know you love your quotes and I do too! Not everyone is lucky enough to be inspired by them I guess.

I know - that was my feeling as well, like there is no-one else to share that close of the day greeting. I suppose, just wish they would put more than the good-night - maybe a little "quote" would even be more interesting

@valmnz Oh I know - whats not to be inspired by a wonderful quote of a GREAT person : “If you're reading this... Congratulations, you're alive. If that's not something to smile about, then I don't know what is.” ~ Chad Sugg

as long as there is some meat to them, I can find something to say.

@Inlemay if there is other content to the post besides just "good night."

I don't respond to the good night posts. If it falls somewhere within a discussion I do respond though.

You have a point their. Since if it is good night then no more response after that from them. But for me it doesn't matter. I still wish them a good night sleep though it is daytime from our place and I don't wait for response to that. Its just like a friend wishing a dear friend good night.

@Inlemay hahahah...that would be it also..hahaha so silly.. But anyway some of them responded to by the next morning. But most I respond the goodnight wish was with those other topics included with their goodnight.

@jndlponti That I do too, but I dont do any responding to just 'good night's' any more - they waste good reading time

You mean all they say is "good night"? Usually when I write a "good night" post I say something about what happened during my day or what is going to be happening the next day.

The good night, but also good morning posts, soon become extremely boring. What to say every day? You can comment about a breakfast for a couple of days, even a week, but 365 days a year is too much.

@Inlemay I agree, I love to read about everyday life, things happening, travels, strange facts but not about the fact that you are so dozy that I have to quit. This is something that we cannot avoid to write.

I'd most likely respond to posts that are worth responding... I'd like to have a good conversation than being left without a word...

@Inlemay True, I'd like to know more 'facts' than just some post that contains nothing but a greeting... or what shirt they are wearing for that day...

I hear what you are saying - however that person is not responding to your response as they are off to sleep - so its pointless

I don't read or respond to just any of them... But there are certain users that I enjoy following their posts and I'd still respond to their 'good night' discussions when I come across them...

There are a few that I might respond to - those that I know - they normally leave a little story with their Good Night - but some just do the signing off post of 'Good Night'- see you in the morning, those are not good ones

Good morning Lany, if they are signing off and not going to read a comment until the following day, maybe you should replace 'sleep well' with 'WAKE UP!!!!'

i aint particularly fond'f neither i fear. perhaps if'n they'd more to say than "i'm drinkin' my coffee 'n havin' a piece'f toast" 'r "i'm tired'n gonna turn'n" such'd be a tad diff'rent. aint got nothin' to do with time zones, jest folks spittin' out whate'er whilst they're tryin' to "earn" their fractions'f a cent :(

you have to slumber some time or other, however quite right in not letting us know when, it might be one of these Good Night posts that irritate everyone.

I don't usually bother with the good night or good morning posts. Really, what can you say in reply? Good night? Good morning?
