Just when I think things were getting too boring, the phone rings. I am informed that my son's girl friend is going to be staying here for a few days. She was in a car wreck and fractured her jaw in several places among other injuries. Does anyone have any experience in dealing with this? How do you help someone with a jaw fracture? What on earth can they eat? Did you ever get injured in a car wreck?

It is not that bad. She came in eating pizza. She said it was a hairline fracture, so I guess she can eat regular food. Thank goodness for that.

@akalinus I never fractured my jaw. Didn't she go to her doctor to find out what to do and see him or her?

Oh I feel so bad for her! =( My friend had that happen when we were kids. She had to drink yogurt, and soup out of a straw because she couldn't open her mouth enough for a spoon. It was awful. =( I hope your son's girlfriend heals quickly.

Ensure drink would get the poor lady some vitamins and calories.

That is a good idea. Maybe I should go to Walmart and see what I can get.

@akalinus At least the drinks would help with basic needs.

I was going to suggest liquids fed through a straw but I see in the comments that the break isn't as bad as it could be. I bet her jaw is sore though.

It was nowhere as bad as I thought. I think my son exaggerated just a little. She walked into the house eating pizza. I'm glad I don't have to worry about feeding her enough to keep her alive.

Oh no! I hope she gets better soon! Probably soups, mash potatoes, liquids, smoothies. Soft foods.
