Is rain water good for plants?

May 13, 2016 11:22pm CST
Those who have potted plants in their verandah or balcony, they hardly get a scope of feeding the plants in rainwater. The herbs or shrubs are not nurtured in garden like environment where the flat soil allow the roots to spread inside the soil. So people put tap water on the potted plants everyday. Water is essential and fertilizers are also important. But it is seen that whenever it rains, and the rain water pours on the leaves, stems, new leaves come out. So is rain water better than tap water for plants? Is it due to the fact that rain water is pure water?

I see nothing wrong. But when it is more acidic, that is the problem.

Thanks ilocosboy for the comments. The sharp difference between rain water and tap water is exhibited. I give tap water every day in the potted plants. Hardly one or two leaves come out in a week. Whenever it rains, the leaves come out in 1 or 3 days.

@sathviksouvik It was a good observation. I was reading all responses and I think rain water is really good as long as it does not have the elements of pollution much.

I do collect rain water for my house plants and also to rinse my hair. I won't put the buckets close to the building but far enough away so they get good clean rain water.

@velvet53 Yes Sandy, my potted plants are there in the balcony. Whenever it rains the leaves of the trees get water.

I've seen these pipes connected to gutters which pour rain water to potted plants. But then I'm worried about the plants drowning.

Thanks Nehal for the comments. One of the reasons human beings inhabit only 1 planet, that is the earth, is due to the water cycle. Rain water is good.

@sathviksouvik That is nice Dr Souvik. How many plants do you have? Where do you keep them?
