I went to vist a sweet lady in a nursing home this week. I haven't seen her in about a year, so I wasn't sure if she'd remember me. You see, she has dementia, it's sad to see how this disease has progressed.
I love her like a second mom. She was my daddy's fiancé before he passed on. Alzhimers took him now dementia is slowly taking her. She just turned 90 years old, I pray she doesn't suffer terribly from this disease.
Have you had a loved one struggle with Dementia or Alzhimers?

My Mom suffered Alzheimer's disease for 12 years now and were very sad of this terrible sickness, she can't recognized us always and the only person she can't forget is my Dad, even if she sees him in a distance, she can recognized him so well.

It's heartbreaking when they no longer know us, I'm happy your mom still recognizes your dad.

Yes especially when they do tend to wander off and do not remember their name.

Yes, unfortunately sometimes it does come to that for their safety and the safety of others.

@Marcyaz Yes, I worry that my Father-in-Law, who is now struggling with this disease, might wander off and get lost.

Fortunately no. My parents passed away when they were young and my grandmother passed away not having to go through dementia. My 96 year old grandfather has no problem too.

I'm glad none of them ever had to experience either disease.

Such a sweet lady but I guess it's part of being human to have illness and stuff. I hope she don't have to suffer too much.

It is so sad when a loved one has either disease. My mother had Alzheimer's, and yes, it was a struggle but it was also an honor for me to help care for her until she'd passed on.

My mother had some stroke related dementia, but she always knew us, her kids. My brother's former girl friend really liked her and Mom enjoyed her visits when she brought by her grandson or daughter. She wrote me and asked if it were possible to still visit Mom after they broke up. I told her that I saw no reason she couldn't visit and if she didn't want to say she was his girl friend, then she could tell her that she was my - or should that be our - sister's friend. Mom wouldn't care, she was happy for the visit.
After she passed, of my sister's friend's mom was in the same place, and she was still able to get around pretty well, but she had Alzheimer's. She remembered me, oh, she might've thought I was my sister, but that didn't matter, she would refer to Mom, so she knew who I was.
