Kids and Scheduling

The last family I worked for had their kid's lives super scheduled. Each day after school there was something - soccer, chess club, ballet, piano lessons, etc. The kids never had time to relax or play. It was always straight home, do homework, then do whatever activity was planned for that day. It resulted in me having an unhappy, tantruming 6 year old on my hands all the time! Do you think kids should have very scheduled lives of more free time to play?
