A Trip to Wal-Mart

You always need something. I started doing laundry this morning and realized we were out of Clorox 2, so headed to Wal-Mart to get just a couple items. As I was heading for the checkout here comes this fully grown man, skipping through the store like a child. I almost smiled. As I passed him he told me to have a good day. I told him to have a great day as well, and then I did smile. Here was a man, fully grown, who did what I'm sure a lot of us would just love to do once - let our inner child out to play and have a little bit of fun. I almost felt like joining him, only I knew I couldn't as I haven't skipped in a very long time. I can't even jump, thanks to this gross weight I carry around with me. However, I was smiling and thinking, good for you, as I headed for the checkout, ignoring the other two people he was with, who said something to the effect he was on something. I'm sure he was. It's called LIFE. Have you ever had a moment when you acted completely not your age? And enjoyed every moment of it, despite the looks you might have gotten at the time? I recall a time when a good friend of mine, also a young adult at the time, went to Toys R Us with my daughter and got into the cart and rode down the aisles, and had fun. I had my thoughts about that back then, but after seeing that young man in the store today, all I can say is - Good for you! Thanks for reading.

Sometimes we need a gentle reminder that our inner child needs to come out and play

@JudyEv We need to take time to enjoy life as a child again and not let the kids have all the fun.

Well, I have to say that I could never do that in public.

@Jessicalynnt The one I'm working on is very detailed and can't wait to see how it looks when I finish it. Not a five minute coloring page.

I'm so glad they've come out with adult coloring books. Now it doesn't feel out of place to color again. I love blowing bubbles. It's one of the fun parts of summer.

I don't think I had that kind of moment before. I wouldn't mind it one bit. If it's all for fun, so be it. People need to lighten up and grow up too. Geesh!

@just4him Of course I do, Valerie. Our lives would be boring and dull without having fun.

Yes they do. By growing up I hope you mean having fun and letting your inner child out. I would love to be able to do that without all the odd looks.

Seeing someone else so happy and 'playful' can really life your own spirits, can't it? :)

I have several of those moments. It is good for us to laugh and enjoy things. We care too much what others think.

Yes we do, and as long as it doesn't harm anyone, we should let that inner child out once in a while.

Skipping, jump rope, all the childhood games were a lot of fun. We need to have more of those days for adults too. It would be a lot of fun.

I would consider him "on" something, too.... Unlike you, I would suspect something a tad bit more illegal, though. I've had people come up to me in Walmart that spoke so fast (when that is NOT their usual pace) I couldn't decipher a single word they said! I've had people come up to me and offer me uhm... something that I quickly turned down and then suggested the person go home until the something they ingested or injected or smoked or drank wore off and they were a human being again! It is NOT just at 2 am that the weirdos are out, you know! They just seem to come out in force at 2 am! LOL! Have I ever acted not my real age and enjoyed every moment, despite the looks I get? Why, YES, YES I DO! Every day on myLot.com!

It's a great place to NOT act your age. I've never had more fun than right here with all my friends. The giant myLot sandbox. Everyone is welcome! I'm sure you have seen all those weirdos at all hours. Somehow I don't think he was on anything, though if he was, he was certainly having fun.

@just4him I can be mistaken, especially since I wasn't the one who saw/spoke to him. I do hope you are right and he was just having fun!

Good for him! He would have given me a good chuckle and brightened my day. I let my inner child out, only when I feel the place is proper.

@DianneN That is sad. Maybe someone should organize a day of play for adults to let their inner child out. I bet it would be well attended.

Isn't that all our problem. We need a proper place to let our inner child out. Sometimes I wish I weren't an adult so I could go out and play too.
