I love raspberries.

Raspberries

I love raspberry flavoured food; juice, ice cream, cordial and jam, especially jam. Do you know though, I've never had a fresh raspberry. Today while shopping, I spotted some punnets of these little pink beauties. In view of good health I splashed out and paid $5.50 for a little punnet. I was putting the shopping away and decided to sample one. i thought it would be juicy and sweet and delicious. It was not only rather tasteless but also truly sour! Are they supposed to be that way? I'm gutted.

That's very expensive raspberries. I love these fruits, too. If they are sour, you can add sugar or honey on them and let them stay an hour before eating.

Putting on sugar or honey seems to defeat the health part, lol. do they still taste like raspberries though, if I do that?

Unfortunately you probably got raspberries that were sprayed or GMO (If they have come up with GMO raspberries) If only you lived nearby, I have a red raspberry bush, but it is tiny, so I don't get a lot, but what I do get a lot of are black raspberries (which in my opinion tastes similar) and an even bigger harvest of blackberries. I will have enough for jam, muffins, and maybe even a pie, as well as enough to freeze for later.

Lucky you. I think you may be right. on a second tasting a day or so later, some of them had a cloudiness or greyish tinge and tasted like they were about to go mouldy. Yuck!

@MsTickle Yuck! And I don't know how much a punnet is, but that sounds awfully expensive. In the stores here they are sold in pints and I don't think even the organic ones are much more than $4.00.

Raspberries are pretty good if you can't get cherries!

Yum, cherries. Cherries are so good if they are not bruised.

Fruits are expensive also in our place, but I have no choice but to buy them for the sake of the health benefits we can get in eating fruits. Rasberries don't grow in our country.

It's my belief that paying the extortionately high prices is what keeps those prices high. Usually I go without rather than be ripped off. It was a very unusual purchase for me. frozen fruit has the same benefit

What a terrible shame! I'd add some sugar and to heck with the good health bit. :)

I was thinking I'd juice them with coconut water and honey. That has to be semi healthy?

@MsTickle That's a good idea. Honey would be better than sugar.

oh poor girl. I knew that as I have had several fresh things like that and the reason why is they put sugar, or honey or some other flavor changer to accent the taste in things like ice cream and jam etc. bananas are the only fruit I have found to be pretty close fresh as in things. oh and some apples depending on the kind

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Actually, I think most fruit in its edible state is not sweet enough. I always add sugar to rasps and strawberries if I am eatin them raw. The only one I can think of that is always ok on its own is pineapple.

Same here with strawberries. I've never had one that was sweet and strawberry flavoured. Pineapple can be unsweet too, not sour but not sweet either.

I hope you put the raspberries back if they were sour. Not supposed to be like that at all.

You were just unlucky - my mother used to grow them and they were delicious.
