Oh No I Didn't!

Today is primary election day in Kentucky. And I didn't vote. Before you give me the "oh, no, you didn't!" speech, let me give you one. I am sick to death of people trying to shame people into voting. YES, it is a Constitutionally-guaranteed right. So is owning a gun, but I don't see anyone saying it's your "constitutional duty" to go buy one. You have a right that people served and fought and died to protect to pick a church or a synagogue that you, not the government, want and go to it, but that doesn't mean you MUST go every time the church/synagogue doors open. You don't even have to believe if you don't want to. You can stand on a street corner and protest anything you want...but you don't have to. Now, having said that, there's a simple reason I didn't vote. I cannot in good conscience go into a voting booth and claim that one of these buffoons on my party's ballot is qualified to be the leader of the free world. So take it from this disabled veteran. You have an obligation to live as you want to live in the U.S. If you cannot in good conscience pull a lever for a candidate then don't fake it. And don't let anyone shame you. As the band Rush said in a song, "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice." PS -- here's one of my favorite political songs, from the late Steve Goodman (this didn't make my "top ten Steve Goodman songs" list, but it's still a good song):

I never vote in the primaries and I suspect a lot of other people don't either.

I can't do t voting thing either. I won't be voting for our next president either. But, I do have people voting for the right one so I am relieved.

I firmly believe it is our right NOT to vote if we so choose and agree about the nonsense of being shamed. If you are Republican in California, you are simply wasting your time and the reverse is true in dominant Republican states.
