Not to offend

I love it when people start talking to you and say "hey not to offend you" then they go one with what every else they have to say. When I hear this I think to myself well you saying that you are clearly offending that person or myself. How about just saying "hey I don't agree with this or that, or I don't like when you do this or that or so one" vs saying "not to offend you." It's like a word sucker punch to your stomach. Words do hurt and affect how others feel so it's import to try to think before we talk to someone or even write them something.

Words are powerful. Unfortunately our expressions may not be understood and sometimes people intentionally try to hurt others with words but the not meaning to offend is just a saying when people actually want to offend others.
