Rainforest Green Marble Tile

My husband and I are retired and my husband got bored nearing the end of this past winter. Ever since we bought this house 14 years ago he has wanted a bathroom in the basement. This house was built in 1900 and I am not sure if they put bathrooms in when it was built. When we bought the house there were 2 bathrooms but oddly enough to use one you have to go through someone's bedroom. Not a good thing when people are sleeping. So he has been slowly working on building a bathroom in the basement. For several weeks it has been time to lay our green marble tile. As I have mentioned before it's tricky as this marble can warp as it's more susceptible to moisture than any other color of marble. And we are putting it in the shower. So we had to use this special epoxy that cost almost as much as the tiles. So for the past few days we put up the tile in the shower and got some of the floor done before we ran out of epoxy. We have ordered more and are waiting for it to come in before we can finish. We have to finish the grout lines and put in the handle to turn on the water in the shower and that part will be done. I had to show you all how it looks so far. My hubby put shampoo on the shelves to make sure they were strong. So how do you think it looks? I love it and couldn't be happier with our choice. The same tile is what is going on the floor as well. The grout lines are not completely in line with each other as the marble tile varies a bit. Some are slightly bigger than the others as well some are thicker than others so the grout line is a bit off which disappoints me but I will live with it.

That is very unusual tile to put in a bathroom but seems appropriate for a cellar bathroom. Have fun when you first use it and I hope it is what you are happy with.

@Marcyaz I sure will, the epoxy we had to order came in today. So in the next few days it will be done. Then it has to sit for a week and then we can use it. So it could be a couple more weeks before we can.

I love your choice of tiles and it looks like a beautiful job....great that your husband is handy enough to tackle such a task. Can't wait to see pictures of the finished project. It certainly will be nice having another bathroom handy.

Yes he has always wanted that bathroom down there. Now we will have 3 bathrooms for 3 people plenty I think. Thanks we do love the tiles even though they were so darn expensive.

@mommaj So we ordered the epoxy took two weeks to get it I find that just ridiculous. Had them deliver it to the store. Got there when they said it was in and one of the parts was not there. So they reordered it, I was a bit upset to say the least. They said they would put a rush on it and it would be here this weekend. I have a tracking number and it hasn't even left from where I purchased it. Unbelievable.

It is pretty. Won't the tile warp as you take showers?

It would if we used the wrong epoxy but with the right epoxy it won't, that stuff hardened like stone.

some master's bedrooms are like that, they have their own toilet and bath. i guess in your situation, it would make a great guest bedroom. i thought tiles come in uniform sizes and thickness.

I thought they came in uniform sizes too, I was surprised. Yes my bedroom is the master bedroom and has a bathroom. The other bathroom is upstairs and it connects the two bedrooms up there. Kind of weird.

wow that's great! I was surprised that there had not been a bathroom in our basement at my old house, too! I used to spend so much time down there that a bathroom would have been nice. You've done a great job there!

I've never seen anything like it before, quite individual and really makes for a special feature in the room I'll bet.

A redneck bathroom hmmmmm sounds like something I would like lol. Just the tiles and the expensive epoxy alone was close to 1000 dollars Angela I was a bit stunned by that but my hubby and I never go with expensive so we splurged.

We are so very happy with it. I have a bathroom in my bedroom with a shower, but occasionally I will be using this shower just to look at the tile. Thanks.
