I Fired The Cable Company...Well, Sort Of

So I was paying a few bills online today. My auto payment was $230. Then I paid my cable bill. $259! Do you notice something strange there? Yeah. I did too. I am paying my cable company more than my car payment every month. Something is definitely wrong there. So I called up the cable company to try to lower my bill. They only had "deals" for new customers. "I have been a loyal customer for 10 years" I told them. "So what" they basically said. I had them turn off my phone and cable tv. Now my bill is less than a hundred per month. HMPH! I guess they showed me, lol.

I fired mine too yesterday. I didn't have a complete bundle, just Internet and phone, but it had gone up $16 and was close to a hundred bucks. I didn't pay and signed up with another company. TW will be history in another week. I'm glad you got rid of that horrifying bill. I only have regular TV and Netflix and found I don't need anything else. Besides $10 for Netflix beats a $200 cable bill any day. Have a great weekend.

It is good to change providers times to times. Here they usually increase the monthly bill every year by $1 or $2 for their loyal costumers, and are offering interesting deals to new costumers. I have changed mine (I had not changed since 7 years) last month for another one with a "special deal" 3 times less expensive during the first year and 30% less than my previous one during the second year (I had to sign for a 2 years commitment). We have 4 four cable providers in my city offering approximately the same services, and I think that in 2 years I will look for another deal.

@cindiowens It was the case here 10 years ago, but the prices lowered a lot with the competition existing now. I hope that a new provider will be interested by your city.

@Susan2015 Each time they up the price, the law authorizes us to leave without any penalty even if we have a commitment. I think it is why they ask only for 1 or 2 dollars more every year. But on the other hand, to get new costumers, they offer really good deals. I think that they should better offer an interesting price for all costumers and keep it. I never tried to call to get a rebate, but I think that I will change more often to have the more interesting prices available on the market. And this time they offer me a bonus of extra movies and sports channels during a free 3 months trial period.

We only have one available provider, so that doesn't happen here.

normally, valued/tenured customers will get an email or something about good/better deals from time to time. i wonder why theyre not doing that.

Because there is no other cable company around here, they do not have any competition. They can charge whatever they want.

The amount that we pay for cable and such is ridiculous. Even we're paying a lot of money for it. I don't understand how they can charge so much.

They surely did show you that they don't deserve your hard earned money! I hate companies who don't value their loyal subscribers.

If you can find services that are great for less then great! One shouldn't pay ridiculous prices in order to have cable and phone services. Savings matter.

In this area, TWC has an upper hand, They are the only provider. I do not need their tv and phone service. Netflix is awesome.

{{gigglin'}} i nearly fainted't what'cha were payin' 'em! there's no such monkey's customer loyalty these days, went out with gettin' new gadgets when ya started with 'em (toasters, knife sets, spoon rests, thermometers, etc). we'd cable long 'go, to humor the hubs (football...), when the basic, bare bones "package" went 'p to $68/month 'n most'f the channels i'd care to watch'd been switched to a more spendy one, i told 'em to come'n pick'p their schtuff. companies're too proud'f the goods their peddlin', their ceo's 'n stockholders jest giggle with glee....

Good for you. I am about ready to do the same here, the cable company sure is taking advantage of the fact that they don't have any competition here where I live.

That is something I like about my satellite Co, every time I get mad, they fix it. I have tried to leave a few times thinking, I'll just save some money, but they do offer me a deal and fix whatever my issue is. I am glad you fired them, that is a terrible attitude and one think I can't stand is giving my money to somebody/place that is not grateful for it.

My cable bill is outrageous too & I am thinking of switching just to save money. I hate the idea of having to get a new cable company but it seems offers are only for new customers not loyal ones like you (& me)

I'm paying just over $200 for my TV, internet and phone and was just talking to my husband about needing to call them and see what they could do, I don't hold out much hope that things will work out any better for me now. Agreed that the cable bill shouldn't be costing more that a car pmt.
