When I woke this morning, I had (I believe) quite a full list of things I wanted to accomplish today. Five or so hours later, it's nearly lunch-time and I haven't started or even thought about starting one of them! I have, it is true, spent maybe 30 minutes in total with small routine things (like making coffee, reading emails and dealing with notifications on MyLot) but the rest of it, it seems, has been spent browsing the Internet in search of information about 'things which caught my eye'. For example, I spent some considerable time looking at endoscopes for Android phones on Amazon, not because I wanted or needed one but simply because I saw an ad and didn't realise that such things existed so cheaply. (If you don't know what an endoscope is, it's a small camera on the end of a long flexible cable which is used to inspect pipes and other small spaces). Of course, whilst I was reading about endoscopes, I came across a word I didn't know the meaning of and that sent me down another path which led not to the usual online dictionary, but to a quite remarkable 'visual thesaurus'. You know how a word may be used in more than one way and how all these different, but related, meanings feel as though they could be displayed as a network? Well, Lexipedia does more or less just that and it seems such a useful tool that I felt I ought to share it with you guys! Now don't get lost, will you! Come back and tell us your wool-gathering experiences! .

I'm just wondering, is this the same type of endoscope that doctors use to insert into your body? Or is it a different kind for pipes? I used to have one inserted into my throat. It was a very uncomfortable feeling.

It's quite similar to the ones used by doctors but, of course, not so small and not as powerful. I certainly wouldn't want the ones I've seen online shoved down my throat - not that I'd want that anyway but if it helps the doctor find out what's wrong and give proper treatment then I'll suffer it! I have actually had cystoscopy several times and it wasn't too uncomfortable because they use a local anaesthetic. It was actually quite interesting to watch it on screen!

@cheerfulnuts No, I had no pain at all. Perhaps just a little discomfort for an hour or so but nothing major.

@owlwings I see, so it's bigger than the ones used by doctors? When the doctor showed me her endoscope, it looked huge to me. I got scared, but thankfully, it wasn't painful. Just uncomfortable. A friend's mom had cystoscopy too, and she also said that it was interesting to watch lol. Did you feel any pain after the anesthetic had worn off?

@owlwings I have to agree with that, but you cannot do the latter without the former.

It is interesting how some words are used in different ways. My ex and I used to read the dictionary. Interesting for conversations.

We always had a dictionary in the dining room at home (and a set of encyclopaedias and bird books and all sorts of other reference books). Meals were often punctuated by dictums and quotations from the relevant volume!

@owlwings ...My mom bought me a Collier's Encyclopedia when I 12. I loved it. I have always loved having hard copy books around me.

It's actually more useful and interesting than, perhaps, I have made it look. Especially if you are a writer searching for words which mean something the same but not exactly.

I have a tendency to get lost on the Highway Of Information a little too much. I just get interested in one word and that word leads me to another one, and another one. No ending.

We were quite busy this morning - first I had to stop at the doc's office to very that the meds I received via mail are correct. When off to Tractor Supply for jeans for my husband and a new collar for the dog, then the grocery store for stuff I forget to get yesterday...then the biggie to the pool store to make plans to have the sand changed in the filter..then home and lunch, then I got things organized for dinner then I played outside throwing tennis balls and frisbee in the pool for ruby - and in-between I did a load of laundry....man, I'm tired. And I had to read an article about alligator turtles and there are a few words I had to look up!

The browsing of anything can get one stuck - I decided today the chores will be done while I do the others, so it was a sip of coffee, then a mop, then a slice of toast, then a wash . . . in between all that I posted a few blogs which I am glad you enjoyed - " this one in particular - "there's never enough time to do all the nothing you want." ~ Bill Watterson, Calvin and Hobbes

I planned to do a lot of things today, too. However, I am still on Mylot and have accomplished nothing. Thanks for the Lexipedia information. I never heard of it but will check into it.

This is exactly how I end up 'wasting' most of my time. But I thoroughly enjoy random browsing. The entire episode is so satisfying and fun, I wish it paid!!

I am very bad in getting lost when I navigate the web. As soon as I read something that makes me curious I want to know more and from there I spend hours researching.
