On April 15th my husband took our Cub Cadet lawn tractor to the closest Cub dealer for repairs. Something wasn't right with the engine, it was 'missing'. They said it would be 4-5 weeks before they cold get to it.
Why so long? There are only a few Cub dealers and one closed recently, that puts a burden on the few (within 1 1/2 hours ride) that remain. My husband called them Saturday and was told there were 5 in front of us. Yesterday, May 23rd the man who was working on our tractor called. He said he can't find a problem, that he rode that tractor all over, thru woods, up and down hills and can't recreate the problem.
He is going to put the tractor through the same paces again today and if he can't find anything we go pick it up. Finally.
What that outfit doesn't know is that we placed an order yesterday for a brand new Cub Cadet at a dealer 1 1/2 hours away. The owner of that dealership said they will only be working on equipment that was bought from them, so if we have to have repair work done it wouldn't be with them longer than a week.
It may be a little inconvenient when we have to do a 3-hour round trip with the tractor, but that's less inconvenient than not having it for 40 days. My husband has been using a spare tractor belonging to our neighbor and it's a 'cheap one, small and takes forever to do 4 acres. He will be happy to have our old one back until the new one arrives in a few weeks.

@JudyEv I will have to be second in line to try it - I'll let him be first! I find riding around on a tractor very relaxing and I love the smells and everyone waves when they drive by LOL

I remember your post about your frustration at how long it was taking and the trip you took into town for nothing.Glad it has nothing wrong with it(is the guy sure?)
Now you`ll have a spare tractor should you need it in the future or auction the old one.

We haven't heard from him yet today, so we don't know what's going on. We will either use the old one for a trade in or sell it ourselves.

Once the warranty is over then we can take it anyplace - but the warranty on some of the parts is 6 years.

@LadyDuck We will see what happens in a few hours. He already cleaned up the borrowed one to return to the neighbor so I think he will be using his old one for a few weeks.

If we trade it in they might want it right away. We are working both ends against the middle right now.

Being able to take the new one to the dealer and have less of a wait for repairs (which I hope aren't necessary) is probably worth the round trip. Are you going to sell the old one when you get it back?

Right now we're in a quandry. If we get the word the old one is ready we are going to talk to them about - if we buy from you will we get quick turn around on repairs? If so, then we would trade in the old one. If not, we'll stick with the other place and probably sell on our own - stick it out front with a 4 sale sign and it will get interest.

yeah, that kind of delay for no real reason is a good way to lose business.

I've never heard of Cub Cadet. I take it you don't have John Deere where you live, or is a Cub Cadet better than a John Deere? Now mind you, I'm not a farmer, and know absolutely nothing about tractors, so not biased in any way about John Deere or Cub Cadet.

Of course we have John Deere, but we won't pay for that green and yellow paint - The cub we are buying is 2 grand cheaper than the Deere and has more and better options with it. We are talking lawn tractor - not farming tractor.
John Deere is all over the US, my bro-in-law even works for them. We just don't feel the need to own one.

@AbbyGreenhill Oh, okay. I can see why you would want a Cub Cadet. I thought you were talking farm tractor.
