So Near,Yet So Far

I need fresh vegetables. They are available at a shop just a stone's throw from my house. So near that while typing these words I can see the vendor smilingly talking to a customer.I can see fresh cabbages, brinjals and tomatoes at the shop.I can go there, buy them and be back within a matter of five minutes.
But is it so easy? Yes,it is,but not for me.Between me and the shop is the road which is now bustling with a huge traffic. Before reaching the shop and buying vegetables I would have to cross the road which is something easier said than done.In my town people who have cars and two wheelers don't have road sense. They drive carelessly.Any car or bike may come from any direction and hit or even crush you while you are trying to cross the road. What is worse is that there is no traffic police.
I have to buy vegetables, but I am hesitating, trying to prepare myself mentally to cross the road.
The shop is so near to me.So near, yet so far.

I would also be very wary of this road to cross..it is very unfortunate that you would have to do this and that this dangerous obstacle is there for you to get to the shop.
It is a pity you did not have a drone friend that could fly over to the shop to pick up your order.

@TiarasOceanView I support him, because he sells fresh veggies grown in his backyard by himself.

@TiarasOceanView,Drone?LOL!!
Delivery with drones is a new trend for a small town like ours, yet a mall here has already begun toying with the idea of using them in near future. My concern is that if I buy from malls,I would have to stop buying from the poor vegetable vendor near our place which I won't like to do.

@Jessicalynnt LOL!! Neither neither I can fly nor is there any rope bridge.I'll request the vendor to deliver veggies everyday at my door.

@else34 if only you could fly, or there was a rope bridge over it all!

ah, now i know brinjals are also eggplants
i walked to the market this morning, too. we have two-lane streets so it's easy to cross.
but when i'm out, like the main highways, i also hesitate to cross streets that are wide, with no concrete island in the middle and no traffic light or traffic aide.

@else34 that's why i'm glad we now have our own market and a big grocery store here in our neighborhood so we don't have to commute to the main highway

@hereandthere Here I have a rich market in the proximity of my house, but on the other side of the road.Cross the road first, only then you can cash in on the convenience available here.

It is tricky. Maybe you should wait til a quieter time and then go and get your veggies.

@Traceyjayne,Yes,I should wait. But the problem is that I would have to wait till 9 p.m.The road gets quieter around that time, but what if the shopkeeper shuts the shop by then? Then I would have to travel more than two kilometers to buy veggies.

@Traceyjayne The shop opens at 9 a.m. which is the time when I go to my workplace.I don't have time to stop at the shop and buy. Thanks for a good suggestion.I'll ask the shopkeeper to deliver veggies at my house.Hope,he would agree.Let me see how much he charges for the service. Thanks again.
