Uber Drivers?

Uber is a big thing here in the United States, depending on what part of it you are in. Uber, a similar service to "Lyft" is essentially a taxi-type company that you can sign up for and work for OR order with your smart phone. You can order an "uber" with your smart phone and pay, entirely cashless, via Paypal or a secured credit card transaction. I have taken an Uber a few times, when I have gone to the bar and didn't feel comfortable in driving, and I can tell you it's always been a better experience than taking a taxi cab FOR ME. From the ones I've taken - the drivers are friendlier, the price is much cheaper, and the ride usually gets there MUCH quicker than cabs, which sometimes can take quite some time.
You can sign up to drive for Uber and supposedly can make up to $19 an hour. I'm not sure if this is possible. You just need a car that is newer than year 2000 or 2005 depending on the state you live in or region you live in, and pass a background check.
I am debating signing up for this. My car is an '07 and I wouldn't mind driving people around during the DAY on my off days. I would not want to get that evening bar rush at all. I believe they are pretty flexible about which hours you can work, it's kind of up to your availability.
I am debating on trying to sign up for it. Is that a scary job, being an Uber driver (essentially a taxi driver?) I could use the extra money to pay off my credit card. But I am not so sure. What's your take? Have you ever worked for Uber or do you know anyone who has? Would you do this as another source of income?
