Help - I'm being SPAMED to death!

I have been very lucky in the fact that I get very little SPAM in my inbox. Most 'junk' goes to the 'junk' file. However, starting yesterday afternoon I have been inundated with all kinds of SPAM. Some tell me I've been approved to have my roof fixed (my roof has no issues!) while others tell me how to fix my sex life (again, that has no issues either!).
When I logged in a short time ago I must have deleted 100 SPAM messages. Yesterday it was around 200. Since I've never had this problem before I have no clue if there is something I can do, other than deleting them. Any ideas/suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.
I use Outlook.com and I have a hotmail e-mail addy.
Thanks in advance.

I have often wondered why some spam gets through to our inbox instead of going where it belongs. It must be some trick those companies who want me to buy their non stick copper pans, and to donate to their presidential campaign know about

Its crazy isn't it. I gets lots of junk in the junk folder which is easy to empty - getting them out of the inbox takes a little more time.

I get a lot of spam in my junk box in my e-mail on a daily basis. If I didn't delete my junk e-mail daily, I would accumulate thousands of spam.

I don't care when it goes to junk folder, these are in in box. I delete a total of more than 400 e-mails a day.

I don't have to change anything. I never had a problem in all the years I've used this. It seems that the problem has ended anyway.

contact admins? there must have been a breach to their spam filter system.

I use gmail and have pretty high spam filters and a folder it goes too, I get it too, but I take a ten second scan and then just empty the folder. outlook at work wont let spam even in. Haven't used hotmail reg in some time, so not sure how it's junk filters work.

These are going into my inbox - I know how to quickly get rid of those in the 'junk' folder. It seems to have stopped - only got one more so maybe whoever got bored. Chrome is an operating system.

I haven't run into that problem yet, hope it stays that way, cause I wouldn't know how to fix it.

That's a sudden ton of spam. I heard there has been an outbreak of email addresses being harvested and sold so maybe this is a result. Otherwise, I have found spam goes in cycles. You can be bombarded for awhile then die down to a trickle for awhile.

I changed my password not long ago. I was out for two hours, came home, and only one spamish type e-mail, so maybe the worst is over.
