They say that there certain things, like biking, that once you learned you’ll never forget. I guess the same is true for me for volleyball. I used to play collegiate volleyball, but that was more than a decade ago. I am not athletic by any means, but volleyball and mountain climbing used to be my thing until I moved here in Midwestern United States.
Last Saturday, I went with my boyfriend to their volleyball game. He and his co-workers joined a league and that night, they were 2 players short. One of his teammates asked me if I play, and I say not any more and that I am not really good. As their time to play draws closer, she approached me once again and said that she’s not trying to pressure me, but they sure hope I will join them or else they will have to make do with 4 players.
I told myself, why not? I can just have fun with it. We did not win the game though, but we sure had a lot of fun! And now I am paying for it. Without stretching and after not playing so long, I am sore and my right arm is bruised. They said I did well for someone who has never played in years, and they can tell by my form and handling that I did use to play.
There were certain things that we never forget. And as we grow older, I hope we will never forget to have fun and enjoy life.
