When one door is locked, try another one

Two woman broke into a home in Hixon, Tennessee by using a little creativity. They reached through the doggie door to unlock the backdoor. A neighbor happened to see the pair go to the backyard of the home and had a gut feeling something was up. The home is owned by a 94-year-old man who wasn't home at the time of the robbery. It pays to have neighbors who care! The woman who noticed this called her family outside to keep an eye on the home. When the cops arrived they found the crooks hiding in a closet with a bag filled with goodies such as prescription drugs and bank statements. To top it off, they even stole candy bars from the old man - how rude.... They were charged with aggravated burglary. One moral of the story, if you have a doggie door make sure you keep it locked or secured so that this won't happy to you. The other moral is to eat all your candy, don't leave it for someone to steal! http://www.wrcbtv.com/story/32119034/two-women-arrested-for-breaking-into-hixson-home Photo: pixabay.com/en/chocolate-bar-candy-sweet-tasty-721602/

I never thought of a doggie door being used in a robbery. Some crooks are so crooked! (Yes, make sure doggie doors are locked)!

I don't think a doggie door is the best thing. I like to be in charge of letting my dog in and out.

@AbbyGreenhill I agree with that. When I was a youngster , my family had a dog and it was best for us to be in charge of when he would go out.

@LeaPea2417 I guess people who work and done is alone all day would use a doggie door. I would worry the whole time I was away.

We used to have neighborhood watches and there would be a sign in the windows of those who participated. Haven't seen one of those in ages. Geesh! They even tried to steal his snacks? A doggy door security lock? Good idea!

@AbbyGreenhill ....Well, it used to be Block watches or something, don't remember what they were called. But, they were ones that you knew if they had that sign n their window you could count on them. Mostly for kids. You could use the phoe or they would help you if you got lost. That sort of thing. I haven't seen one in years.

Unless you have a tiny dog and a tiny doggie door I think those might be not the best idea to have. I've sen neighborhood watch signs in places, not sure sure how much good it does.

That is creative. Good to know the man had competent caring neighbors. It is totally rude to steal one's candy, especially chocolate.

@AbbyGreenhill. I'd love a neighbor like that. Toughing the chocolate is way out of line.

Maybe they didn't know who lived there or maybe they did and figured he would be an easy target.
