What about LinkedIn?

While I was still working full-time, I joined LinkedIn and have been on there several years. There are writers' groups and many of the people I have met online are there in my "network." I know that some who write here are also associated there. But, it seems that almost every day I get notices from people in various parts of the world wanting to join my network. Since I pay little attention to that site, I have my doubts as to its worth to me. My wife pointed out that each person with whom I "network," gains access to all the others. I was wondering, are you a LinkedIn member? Is it in any way worthwhile to you?

I'm on it only because a friend invited me. I've never logged in or even browsed the site.

Though I spend very little time there, I did get a temporary job through Linked In. That's about it though.

I joined a while back. The way it happened is that I got an email telling me that I had an invite from my son to join, which I did, thinking that it was just another social site. I found that 'Linkedin' is more directed toward business opportunities, job searching and employee recruitment. Not much there especially since I'm retired. I very seldom visit.

I have not joined because it's not interesting to me. I know that there are privacy settings that people should take the time to check carefully, but I have never read all their policies.

I am a LinkedIn member, but don't use it as nearly as often as I should. I guess I'm not hip with the times, as I still network the old-fashioned way...by picking up the phone and calling people, or meeting them for lunch and talking to them in person. For my contacts that are spread out around the country, I keep in touch by email. I guess I could do a better job by spending more time on LinkedIn. Also, I have noticed too that lately I am getting requests from people from all over the place, and many of them are not even in my profession. I used to feel guilty about not accepting their connection request, but now I don't feel guilty about it at all.

From what I've heard from family they have left LinkedIn because they were being bombed by trash and spam. It seems the company was hacked in 2012 and never bothered to announce that, kept it quiet and now its just junk. I will check it out and remove myself too - I haven't been on that site in a few years.

I'm a LinkedIn member but dormant and inactive for few years now. It seems it's not worthy to be active in there.

I am a LinkedIn member although I don't really do much with it anymore. But friends of mine wanted to add me to theirs and they figured that since I work hard with my writing, I should be there. It would be nice if I could network with others who also write, just to share some ideas or such. But it hasn't happened yet.

I just don't spend any time there, but get so many requests "join my network."

@JamesHxstatic That's so strange. I only get messages about people who've been added to my friends' networks and sometimes I see what their jobs are just in case there is someone else's brain I can pick! lol

I am on LinkedIn. My present employer recruited me through that site, so it's been very helpful for me. I'm on a few writing groups and proofreading groups on there as well.

@puddleglum, LinkedIn just got very valuable today. Microsoft is buying it for $26.2 billion in cash! I wish I owned stock in LinkedIn!

I joined that too James, but, I do not understand it so do not go into it and it does not really interest me. Are you still on it?

I am, but seldom even look at it. It is pointless unless you have a business to promote. By the way, there is a pic of me on a pony I posted.

@JamesHxstatic James, maybe I did not get to it yet. Thank you for posting it. I have a very small business but I still do not use it. I do not understand or like it.

you know, i joined linkedIn before i ever joined Facebook basically so i could continue to network.... at that particular point in time, i still thought i'd return to my career and would wish to remain connected for that. so yes, i still have the account. but i do not do anything with is.

I'm on LinkedIn and I use it to promote some of the news articles I write on The Daily Voice News. I do nothing else on the site. I do not belong to any groups. However, if it works for you, go with it. There are lots of ways to pursue our writing.
