In 1927 there was a Memorial begun in Mount Rushmore which is a sheer peak going up 6,000 feet in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
There were 4 faces carved into the rock.
The four Presidents who were Geoge Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson.
It was started to promote tourism for the region but wasn't completed until around 1934 or 1939.
It seems to attract over two million people every year.

I never go someplace and think of it has being touristy, I just go because it is something I want to see.

The interesting thing was they ran out of money halfway through the project so they never completed the carvings.
