In 1927 there was a Memorial begun in Mount Rushmore which is a sheer peak going up 6,000 feet in the Black Hills of South Dakota. There were 4 faces carved into the rock. The four Presidents who were Geoge Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson. It was started to promote tourism for the region but wasn't completed until around 1934 or 1939. It seems to attract over two million people every year.

@Tampa_girl7 I am sure someday you will be able to see it and you will be absolutely amazed at how it looks and wonder how someone could make it like that.

I have always been impressed by Mount Rushmore because it would be impossible to see what you were carving while so close.

@Marcyaz They would need to be guided by someone looking at it from below, which cannot be easy.

@Asylum I see nothing about the carving of the figures being an easy task.

The interesting thing was they ran out of money halfway through the project so they never completed the carvings.

My understanding was the man passed away and his son finished it.

@DeborahDiane It is difficult to imagine how anyone could be up that high and carving the way they faces are done.
