Chipped Bowls

A few years ago I wrote a story on that Bubble website about my favorite cereal, Bare Naked Granola.
Its a cereal I discovered in the US and fell hard in love with. I've tried all the flavors and the one in the photo is my favorite. Fruit and nutty, it suits me to a tee.
Across the border I can find it in the major grocery stores and in Walmart. I usually buy a few every time I'm in the states and it lasts me a few months. If only I could find them in Canada...sigh...
Crunchy and Delicious, have you ever tried it?
Yesterday as I ate breakfast (top photo) I realized I had chosen a chipped bowl that I love. Normally I wouldn't keep a chipped bowl, but this one is special. I think I have only two left and both are chipped.
They were my mother's and when we were emptying the house after both my parents died I took them to my home to live with me.
There is a story attached to them.
My mother loved to travel and visit interesting places. On day we found ourselves in Bennington, Vermont. We were there to visit Bennington Pottery. We took a tour through their factory where all their pottery is made by hand. We chose some interesting pieces to buy and had lunch at their restaurant.
I haven't been there since the 60'/70's but I might have to visit it this summer just for fun.
My mother liked the blue green color and bought some plates, bowls and mugs that day. I doubt that pattern lasted long because every piece was chipped rather quickly or broken. All we had left were the chipped bowls and chipped or not they are special to me.
I bought a couple of blue mugs that day and I still drink out of them and they never chipped. I also noticed they still sell them.
If you get a chance to be in Bennington, I highly recommend stopping and visiting Bennington Pottery.

My favorite coffee cup, which isn't really that old, has a chip in it. But its all right, I know that I probably caused that chip loading it into an already stuffed-full dishwasher. Its still my favorite mug in the cupboard and nobody else uses it.

from the side of the bag -
FRUIT & NUTTY GOODIE BAG is our original soft-baked blend of whole grain oats, toasted almonds, sun-ripened raisins and cranberries—finished with mellow coconut and a kiss of golden honey. Awwwe-some.
and: Allergen Notes: CONTAINS ALMOND, COCONUT, PECAN, AND WALNUT INGREDIENTS. MAY CONTAIN PEANUTS AND OTHER TREE NUTS.
Ingredients: Whole grain oats, honey, almonds, expeller pressed canola oil, raisins (raisins, vegetable glycerin), coconut, dried cranberries (cranberries, cane sugar, vegetable glycerin), oat bran, maple syrup, pecans, walnuts, whole oat flour, ground flax seeds, toasted sesame seeds.
It just hits the spot for me - a 1/4 cup is 140 calories I add fresh fruit and yogurt. ( no bran anywhere)1 person likes this

@PainsOnSlate Oh I see - not bran flakes at all. It sounds delicious, but I'd eat it minus the yogurt - don't like that.

My mother loved pottery and so do I. One trip through Ohio we stopped at 4 factories that made vases for cut flowers. My mother made the arrangements for our church for every Sunday. Loved traveling with her she would stop on a dine if it looked interesting.

@PainsOnSlate You are right, my Mother uses all the time the chipped coffee cup that my father used, I cannot convince her to change.

Isn't it interesting how we get attached to certain things. I bought this mug and a second one taller and skinnier, both made by the same artist and I always reach for one every morning. They both have pink in them and I am not a pink lover but I love the mugs. I just realized both mugs are in the photo above.

I have a home based business called paints on slate. Not interested in selling pottery and the postage here in Canada is over the top! but I love to paint and sell it locally where I can deliver it myself.

If you live in the states it is available in the big grocery stores. I buy it in NY but I found it in Florida last winter. It is delicious.

That sounds like a bowl that I would like. I eat cereal almost every day too, but have not tried that cereal yet. I will have to add it to my collection. I usually have about five varieties on hand.

It is full of dried fruit and nuts and if so tasty. I usually add fruit and yogurt, instead of milk.

The mugs in the photos are both hand made by a friend of my daughter. I love the size, the texture on the finish and wish I had more. I hope to run into that woman again and get some more. I find her at craft shows every once in a while.
