Is solid fertilizer good for bamboo plant?

Whenever bamboo plants are grown in glass saucers in home, they are given water once in a week. But other potted plants are given solid fertilizers in the soil. If solid fertilizer in the form of powder given in the glass containers of bamboo plants will they damage the plant? My bamboo plant is 2 weeks old.
