When worse comes to worst.

Yesterday, there was a strong lightning and thunderstorm so loud that the rains fell, followed with power interruption. It was good because it was still afternoon. I was still able to post some comments but I told some that power interruption is inevitable.
Then the inevitable came; brown out due to strong winds and rain. I switched off the net book. Then power was restored, I switched on the net book but after a few minutes, it went off again.
We waited for the electricity to come back. It came at 9PM. I immediately put on the net book but I was surprised it did not switch on again. I told my son why. “System reboot failed”.
Worse, the net book is damaged with the power interruptions. This morning, my son went to the city to attend the orientation in the driving school; I told him to bring the net book to the repair shop and have it checked.
Worst, the hard disk is already damaged. The repairman said it is better to buy a new hard disk and have it installed. Worst, all our files cannot be recovered anymore. I have some pictures and a list of my posts in this site, with the accompanying payments I received.
I told my son we will have the net book repaired next month. Now, I am back on desktop. What a first Saturday for me.

yes, i lost many of the pictures that i placed there, also my list of the posts i have in this site, with the dates when i was paid.
yes too, a strong lightning can damage some electronics. that is why when there is power interruption, we immediately remove all plugs from the sockets.

@ridingbet oh, it's quite expensive. Did your son ask in other repair shops? There might be a cheaper offer.

Sorry to hear what happened to your netbook. I think it is more comfortable to work on a desktop because it has a much bigger screen than netbook. Anyway, I hope that the repair and the cost of the drive disk won't be too expensive.

@ridingbet It would be possible to fix it, using the installation CD.

When I'm home, I prefer to use our desktop or my laptop because it is easy to use and more comfortable, it has a big keys compared to netbooks or tablets but I used it when I'm going out and the keys are too little so we encounter typos.

@ridingbet It's easy to set your account up with dropbox, then put all your files there and no matter what computer you're on, you can bring up your work, or grab a photo to use.

sadly, the net book has no new battery and it is already drained.

it is. that is usually the problem when the thunderstorms are so strong, then followed with flashes of lightning; almost always there will be power disruption; then all electronics will be damaged (hopefully not).

That's sad. Good thing I always use my iPad mini. So it won't be affected in case of brownouts. I can still do myLotting even during brownouts.

why the hard disk robbed you? you mean the person who did the hard disk robbed you money?
i hope our laptops/net books will be repaired with minimal costs.

I have never used a desktop for a long time and I haven't used a PC actually for many years. Hope that the fee for having it fixed won't be as expensive as the netbook itself.

the fee is 2 thousand. i asked my son if it is still possible to recover our files, and he said it could be possible.
the keyboard of the desktop is not smooth-typing though. i have to press hard the keys so the letters appear.
the net book cost about 12k last 2012, it was my advance graduation gift for my son's graduation last 2013. he wanted that for his thesis. hope the net book can still be repaired
