Be Careful What You Think...and Do!

I'll never forget the first time I flipped someone the bird. I was thirteen and I aimed that middle finger right at my school bus. I thought I was being cool. A week later I was involved in a trampoline accident and broke the knuckles of one of my fingers. I'll give you five guesses as to which finger it was. In sixth grade I had an awesome teacher. She was mean and strict and when we asked her how old she was, she'd always say "150" or "210". I loved her. However, I quickly noticed she had a mole on one of her earlobes. I distinctly remember thinking, I am so glad I don't have a mole like that. A few months later...I had a mole on my earlobe. A big, honkin', huge mole. Recently I went to the coast with my sisters. We all used sunscreen and I felt smug. For once, I wasn't going to be burned. Several hours later my sisters mentioned that they had missed a few spots and had gotten a sunburn. I tried not to gloat in my realization that I had escaped their fate. And then I went home and looked in the mirror. Whoops. My husband likes to say, "Correlation does not imply causation." His brain is more highly "evolved"** than mine so it took me awhile to figure out what he meant. And then I had to disagree with him. If I hadn't flipped off the school bus, I'm sure I wouldn't have broken that finger. If I hadn't fretted about my teacher's mole, I bet I would have never grown my own. And if I hadn't felt so smug about my skin-safety, I probably wouldn't have gotten burned. What else could explain all these tragedies in my life? **Disclaimer: I don't really believe my husband's brain evolved. I believe it was created by a Great Designer. Using the word "evolved" just seemed to fit my flow. So there.

Lol l would have not liked to have a mole, especially when you`re young and just want to be perfect.

I come from a mole-y family. So I should have been prepared. Still, when you're young and vain... sigh. I recently had that mole removed. Mostly because my younger children kept picking at it and asking if it was a "nipple".

Your thoughts become things. Remember that when you want to make fun of someone. You are thinking of something and it comes to pass especially if it is something negative..

Now when I get those thoughts I try to push them to the back of my mind and forget them. It's one thing to be thankful for what we have (or even don't have--Give thanks in all things, right?) but to gloat or secretly be smug? Eh, that's when a person starts pushing it...

@Genipher So, you think from that day on when you did that bad luck followed you or if you said something bad then something bad happened to you? I found something that the jerk upstairs threw on our porch and was going to see about putting it in his mailbox below and or in his plants on his porch above us. I decide to just throw it out because I am not like him. He behaves like a bully two year old.
