Lake Thunderbird in Norman, Oklahoma is named for the Native American legend of the thunderbird who is supposed to have supernatural power and strength.
Lake Thunderbird has boating, fishing and hiking with 6000 acres to enjoy.
There are also nature trails, archery, horse rental and boarding, equestrain trails, rental cabins and primitive campsites. It also boasts a restaurant and two casinos.
They also have shelters that you can rent for parties or weddings which I have been to and it was a lot of fun.
There is good fishing and swimming there.

@JohnRoberts
It was originally made as a reservoir to provide water to nearby communities.

If you ever have the chance to go there they also have setups for Rv's and campers or just tents.

Sounds close to where my BFF lives in Oklahoma. They have a lake they like to go to too.

I've never heard of this lake before but I love knowing where the name comes from and what's there! It sounds like a piece of paradise.
