Tonight's Into the Groovy (#68) remains in England, where four-time Grammy Award-winning Dire Straits formed.
Vocalist/guitarist Mark Knopfler formed Dire Straits in 1977. The band would go on to sell over 100 Million records over the course of the group's existence.
Their third album, 1980's Making Movies, contained five songs that were released as singles. Of the five, only "Skateaway" appeared on Billboard's Hot 100 chart (#58.) The song also peaked at #37 in the UK.
"Skateaway" is a tune about a carefree girl that roller skates all over the city, through traffic and crowds, with not a worry in the world.
A girl on roller skates is pretty Groovy if you ask me. Especially the girl in the official video:

"Enchanté, what can I say!" One of my all-time favorite Dire Straits songs!!!
Plus, this is infinitely better than the "other" roller skate song, "Brand New Key."

Although "Roller Skates" by Steel Pulse is great as well. As for "Brand New Key," I agree. Yuck.

Here is a question to ponder: does Dire Straits merit rock and roll hall of fame consideration?

I'd say so. Selling over 100 Million records should've gotten them in already, you would think.

I know. This just popped into my head yesterday, no idea why, but I figured I'd better use it before I forget it.
