A Postcard from Connecticut

Unfortunately this is a very unfocussed photo of a very lovely postcard I received from @BelleStarr. I don't know why I couldn't get a better shot but the camera just wouldn't focus for some reason. I am really into farms and barns, paddocks and fields so this particular choice couldn't have been better. Hopefully my postcard is well on its way by now although I was a bit tardy in sending it. Are you participating in the exchange of postcards with other MyLot members?

I must have missed this invitation. I was missing for most of the month of May.

Morley, they are exchanging their addresses via pm's here. There's quite a group participating. From memory, and just from reading some of the posts about it here, I know that Janet, jabo, alfredo, bellestarr and several others are doing this already. In fact, there may be a list of similar posts on the right side bar for you to find some of the others too, although not all the titles reflect that, so I'm not 100% sure. I won't be doing it for awhile, mostly because I'm sure I'd be slow in getting them out and I want to make sure my financed can handle it on a regular basis.

There are a few here who are very keen. I must admit it is nice to get something personal in the mail-box.

If such scenes appeal to you then you will no doubt enjoy the paintings by Constable.

I know quite a few of his paintings. George Stubbs is another whose work I admire.

@JudyEv I think that Stubbs tends to lean more towards horses than rural scenes.

@sofssu Post offices in Australia are used less and less so the postal charges have become astronomical. I think they are pushing everyone to do everything online.

There are a few members who are exchanging postcards by snail mail, mostly for the pleasure of receiving a personal letter or card through the mailbox.

@JudyEv I try to select postcards according to the recipients concerned, but that is not easy at times.

For those of us that do not live in resort areas, postcards can be quite elusive these days. It took me quite a while to locate picture postcards from Manchester and also from my home town of Bolton. They are available, but not as commonplace as they used to be.

I have been reading many discussions about people doing the postcard exchange. It is a great idea that I still haven't decided if I want to do or not. Probably would weird my husband out if I did.

@JudyEv he gets a little weirded out with me being on this site. We both have Facebook accounts and share most of the same friends. Maybe that is what it is.

Not yet, and I probably won't be able to do this for a few years possibly. I know that any I'd want to send would be even tardier than yours was. I did take time to check to see whether we still carry postcards in our store or not, and it seems that after the remodel three years ago that they eliminated them. Probably they weren't good sellers. I'm sure I can find them somewhere in town, if nothing else, we have a fantastic garden area in town that probably sells them. Otherwise, I can visit the gardens, as I've not done that for a long time, and take pictures and maybe make my own postcards. I found that the home department has postcards that a person can color themselves, but after looking just last night, I've not found them yet. I'm not sure how appropriate they'd be either, but I'd consider that possibility too.

We have a photo of kangaroos at the birdbath which we had printed as a postcard. It was a very cheap offer from Vistaprint and we got 100 printed.

There is something called 'post-crossing' (I think that's the term) and others are PMing each other with addresses for the exchange of postcards.

How interesting! I knew Belle was interested in postcard exchanging. She and I are both from Connecticut, which does have some magnificent farms and barns and countryside.

I can't say that I ever have done such a thing but I wouldn't be against emailing it cost less lol. It reminds me of pen pals.

I think the primary idea is to receive a 'real' postcard in the letter-box. I had a few penpals years ago and yes, it's similar.

I'm not doing the postcard thing with anyone here although it does sound intriguing. I'm reluctant to erode what little anonmity I still have here though so I don't think it's going to be happening.
