Woman on a Mission

I received a brief facebook message from @marsha32 this morning. They had finished the 18 hour train trip and they were boarding a bus for another two hours journey. I hope she stays well and tolerates the heat and physical labor. She was looking forward to having some spiritual insights while gone from her busy life. I think we should all get away and look to the face of God when we have the chance.

I've read about Marsha doing the mission work - is she your daughter?

Marsha is actually a friend of mine. We first became acquainted several years ago on this site and another. At that time she only lived a half hour from me and we did a little more together. I made her wedding cakes and stood up with her when she married Steve.

@GardenGerty How nice that you've made a proper friend out of a virtual one

this is prophetic for me. as this morning I thought I may reach out to a near by church for help finding someone that will help me with things for low payment. as I can't afford a lot of the usual prices of others to go do and help with house work, dog, etc.

There are many things that churches help with, or they may know someone who would need just a small sum of money to help them out.

@GardenGerty that was my thought. I usually help daughter with things here and there if she is helping me physically but don't feel like it when she is being snippy about things and not caring to.

I worry about Princess. My sister is coming to stay with her here, though.

@GardenGerty Oh that's good. I had a friend come in a feed mine and sit with them for a bit. They love him a lot so it was all good.

I don't think you have to travel to find spiritual insight. I find spiritual insight as I look up at the sky and see the stars or by going to the lake and being surrounded by nature. A "mission" could be helping your neighbor or some one in your community.

Believe me, there are reasons that she needs to be away for a week and away from distractions. She has described this experience as a sort of retreat. I do agree, missions are around us every day. In her life, though, Marsha has four generations under her roof, and lots of pets and is on the computer for several hours a day. She is in fact on this mission because the student from her church could not go unless an adult would go as a sponsor.

@GardenGerty , OH! I understand now!! We live literally next door to the MIL and she has 6 other kids, but we're the only ones here for here! She deserves a retreat!!

@GardenGerty That is wonderful that she took time out of her busy life to help that teen go on a mission.

She was going from Kansas to somewhere in Arizona, on the Navajo reservation to help with a church project of building houses. She first found out about it when a teen from her church needed an adult sponsor to go along.

It's a great thing to do. I'm planning a day trip soon to go by the ocean and just "be". My husband and I used to do that quite often and I haven't had the time or money to do it since he's been gone, but it's time. I think a day away would do me a world of good.

A totally different environment is restorative.

@GardenGerty oh yes it is. Sometimes that's all we need, even for a couple of hours. Just to go to a different place, breathe in and breathe out. And you can come back home changed and relaxed.

Hope things go well for her. I'm sure you'll be keeping a close eye on her experiences - as close as is possible under the circumstances I mean!
