@Asylum was giving us a run through the change in postage possibilities he has encountered in his post "The gradual demise of the humble postage stamp" , which is quite sad because will the Postage Stamp eventually become extinct like the Dodo?
First let me tell you - "The dodo is an extinct flightless bird that was endemic to the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The species died out before 1700, less than a hundred years after encountering men."
Now for the crux - The postage stamp is a small piece of paper that is purchased and displayed on an item of mail as evidence of payment of postage.
The main components of a stamp:
1. Image
2. Perforations
3. Denomination
4. Country name
or otherwise it seems that there are countries just printing out a PAID sticker rather?
My postage stamp to share today is the one I received on the backside of the postcard from Taiwan with a postage mark 'Republic of China'. I think its a Monkey, but the colours are lovely.
So if postage stamps go the same way as the Dodo . . . a sorry state of affairs that would be!

Someday, stamps will be extinct but I think we are still quite aways from that happening.

I cannot see the postage stamp attaining complete extinction because of the revenue involved. They began life here in England purely as evidence of the postage cost being paid, but it's use has evolved since. Philately has become so popular that most countries earn vast revenues from selling them to collectors and not having to provide the delivery service. This applies especially to poor countries, who often produce large sets of colourful stamps.

I would like to think it will last forever or at least my lifetime. We have a monthly First Day Cover as it is called, with all the new Value postage stamps, I ask for these when I go, otherwise I get the pretty International peel and stick general stamp, Our Big 5 Animals are the current ones.

Stamp collecting is a HUGE business all over the world--makes too much money to become a Dodo!!

It would make sense it's a monkey as this is the year of the monkey. It would be sad if the stamp goes the way of the dodo. I hope it never happens.
