Guilty, as charged!

I have a confession to make:
I shop at Walmart.
Please understand, it's a necessary evil. We have a large family and I need cheap food.
And clothes.
And toys.
There are some things I love about our Walmart:
(1) In the rainy season, the carts are stored in an area that blows and dries the water so you aren't plopping your child in a drenched seat.
(2) I can get my eyes examined and new glasses and then shop for groceries.
(3) You can return practically anything--no questions asked.
But there is one thing I don't get.
Why are there 20 check out lanes but only 5 of them are ever manned by a cashier?
The customer lines can be stretching off into the wild blue yonder but nobody ever comes to open up more lanes!
Why??
Personally, I think they should cut out 15 of the unused lanes and create a roller-skating rink for kids. Then they'd have something do while I'm standing in line for 30 minutes, watching the butt-crack of that large lady who didn't feel the need to get duded up for a trip out.
After all, it's only Walmart, right?

Half an hour in the queue is insane. People would just opt for other places for shopping simply because of this problem. And the cashiers would be overworked ..so they need additional pair of hands to be in smiling spirits...compared to roller skating rink employing two more persons would be cheaper I think.

To be fair, it's not often that the wait is that long. But it has happened before. Usually it's an older person as cashier or someone new to the job. Or even a customer who's WIC or coupons aren't going through so the manager has to be called over...
I often pick the wrong lane to check out of.

The problem with Walmart, and I not only shop there, but am a shareholder, with their checkouts is two fold, which just makes a bad situation worse. For one, there are hardly enough cashiers working, and the cashiers are the SLOWEST cashiers in the business. It makes for long wait times almost every time you are there.
But it does save money even if it eats up more time.

Uhm.... I probably shouldn't tell you that I work at Walmart, then, huh?
The store I work in got rid of those self-checkout lanes...
I won't use the self-checkout lanes when my daughter and I shop in Walmart, either. If they can't have a live person at the register I use, then I can always go to the Target a few miles away!
Although, after the woman scowled at us the whole time we were in her line, couldn't even say hello when we spoke to her and, I swear, the only expression she had was the resting b*tch face then we might as well use the self-checkout lane! (shudder!) At least the machines never act like that! (The machines only cheat us by keeping half our change due! They don't make our experience a total nightmare!)

@Genipher I don't mind being your "man on the inside", but you will need to get me a bit of help, no matter what the plan is! I suggest you recruit @akalinus to help us out! (She comes up with some humdingers of ideas! I'm not always sure they are practicable, but hey, I'm willing if you are!
)
What's the worst that could happen? (Wait a minute.... They could make Jo Ann our boss!
I better re-think this!

I was Walmart-free for many years. Then, they built one three miles from my house. I resisted, called my "fight the corporate giants" support group and everything...for a day or two. But the tantalizing pull of affordable milk, eggs, and new underclothes I can buy even at 4 am was stronger than my willpower, and I succumbed. Now I'm hitting the hard stuff and even buy gas there.
Anyway, I love the skating rink idea.

No judgement from me! Walmart isn't easy to resist. They're like the Borg!
Ah, you reminded me of Reason Number 4 why I love Walmart: Open 24/7!
That has been especially helpful when we've suddenly needed Children's Tylenol in the wee hours of the morning!

Got back earlier this afternoon from shopping at - Walmart. We can't afford much. Even in Canada people don't seem to think there is any need to be presentable shopping there.

I have seen some pretty scary people at Walmart.
Whatever happened to being presentable while going out in public? Does Walmart have some kind of black hole that allows weirdos to fall in to the store?
No offence to my fellow weirdos out there...

Careful, though...I found that I paid less at Market Basket for eggs, some canned goods, bacon and a few other things than at Walmart. Oh, and you gotta love that fiftyish ol'bag with the eighty inch waist and the butt cheeks drooping all around the scooter seat struggling to get her nachos and twinkies up on the belt and digging in her suitcase sized wallet for her EBT card.

We had some friends once. Well, I guess they were friends of friends. Anyway, they were adamant that WalMart was the devil.
And then I happened to spot them in the WalMart check-out line one day.
Our mutual friends laughed when they heard they had been there.
I would love to shop at other stores...if I could afford their prices.
