I sometimes fell that being a locksmith to open locks or fix up door lock can be a fun job. After I do some search on the internet and decided to take some courses on skills like that, I got a different picture about this job.
1. It will cost a few thousand Hong Kong dollars to take some courses and learn about this type of skills.
2.Then, another problems arise being that how would know your customer has the right to enter into that house or that apartment if they ask you to open the lock for them. Although the school will recommend some kinds of procedure for you to avoid being a thief yourself if the customer is actually a thief who just want to break in to that house, I don't think those recommendation is practical and useful as well. In that case, being a locksmith needs further consideration for me.
3. What happen to you if you refuse some gangster to request for your services ? Will your own safety being threatened as well ?
These are some of the problem that i think i need to re-consider for being a new locksmith. What do you think ? Share with us ?

Here in the United States, they usually make a copy of the state id of the individual requesting the keys.. then it turns out to be a criminal the locksmith can report it.... They also in many cases will request permission from the owner themselves it it turns out to be a car, or a property the person clearly does not own... As far as turning down business from an gangster that is a risk that many jobs run.. in those cases the best you can do is get their identity give your services and immediately report them as they leave... Most Illegal crime rings have their own people to do that and are not going to be brave enough to go to someone that is not a member for that sort of thing... I thought locksmith would be cool too.. But this is not to say that sometimes people do not trick locksmiths or others into copying keys.. in some cases locksmiths save photos of all the keys too as their are codes on the keys as well... in many cases.. But there will be situations when you really do not know, like if someone is housesitting or even babysitting for a relative out of town borrowing their car, and locks themselves out. or out of the house even... But most of the time.. they find out when the owners are going to return, or have a contact number for them they can give the locksmith so they can call and verify the person is indeed allowed to be there at the time.. in other cases.. I have heard locksmiths write down their information and when they are going to return and then call the owners to verify that it was legit when they return if they do not get that verification then have some law enforcement show up to do a check asking questions. I am not sure how that is all done in Hong Kong but these are things I witnessed done here in Wisconsin, USA.

Thank you for your sharing and I think it may work in USA but for sure it won't work in Hibg Kong. Because it is so easy to be locksmith in Hong Kong and most of the locksmith only care about one thing : how to earn money fast. Most of time , there is only one locksmith in the shop and many customers show up all at once. They won't have time to do any identity check up or fill in any form. Every order is done by verbal agreement only. If you ask too much , the customers will leave at once and find another one within 5 minutes. If there are no locksmith nearby, the customers will make a call and the locksmith will show up as soon as possible since work by call to your place can order much more. Although they are starting to talk about the security and how to avoid crime in the so call losksmith association , the government doesn't have a law for those identity check up for the locksmith as well. That means nobody wants to do that unless they get into some trouble.
