Mirror, mirror on the wall…

Last year we acquired a full length wall mirror from friends who were moving away. I had not seen myself full length for a very long time but I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. I looked less overweight than I felt and my legs looked slimmer in the mirror than when I looked down at them!
This impression was destroyed when a friend came two days ago. She is quite a large lady and she just happened to see herself in my mirror.
‘I love your mirror’ she exclaimed, ‘I look so slim!’ She did look slim, unrealistically so.
After she left I told my husband about it and being a practical man he got out a tape measure and announced that the mirror was a little concave, from side to side and especially from top to bottom! Hence the mirror lied.
In retrospect it occurred to me that the previous owners were short and fat. Did they deliberately buy a deceptive mirror or were they flattered into buying it from the image it delivered?
I’m not going to ask them, so I will never know….

It was better than going on a diet...I may have to consider that now that reality has taken over from a lying mirror.

And even better if it was connected to the scales in the bathroom.

LOL, that reminds of the mirror in one of the shops in HongKong that we went into.. I looked so tall and slim in that mirror, I loved what I saw..
The mirrors we have here at home show me the truth .. But the truth set me free .. heeheh!!

I think some shops cheat with mirrors, that would explain why clothes tried on in cubicles in shops look less flattering when we come home.

I think sometimes we just need a little positivity and if the mirror makes you feel a little slimmer well I think that is a good thing. lol

It is rather a backhanded complement now.

What a cool mirror! My niece has a mirror that must be a reflection of someone else, because I look much better in my mirrors at home!

Best not to take a glance at yourself when you go visiting...

@41CombedaleRoad That's true. Maybe I should take my own floor length mirror with me wherever I travel. Might be a little difficult on the plane, though.

If they didn't tell you when they gave it to you, then they probably were unaware. But if it makes you feel better, then it was probably not a good idea to measure it.

Ignorance may be bliss but my husband is a very logical man and he could see better than the mirror!

@41CombedaleRoad He would most likely accurately answer the question, "Do these pants make my butt look big?" So don't ask.

What a disappointment to find that mirror was being deceptive but curious that your friends had such a mirror in their home. Wonder if they really knew it wasn't a true reflection of what they saw when they looked in it

Imagine that! But I guess one or two might like to give it a try if I share my secret.

So true..sometimes mirrors can be so deceptive and misleading! Hate some of the mirrors in the changing booths in clothing shops!

I remember there used to be a room of mirrors in some museums and we enjoyed seeing ourselves in all shapes and sizes in these specially made mirrors as children. Thanks for the memories

That is odd, have you tried checking how flat the glass is?

One can do good business of their product using this one.

You could have gone on feeling really good about yourself - but of course you should do that anyway.
