Enhanced Interactions Underscore the Oneness of Humanity

Oneness of Humanity

Social networking, including online sites, has been a revelation and fascination for me. It is so easy to communicate across our planet and distances are no barrier now. Like for example, when we post a discussion or response here it is instantaneous in its reach. No one, few decades ago, would have believed this would be possible. Yes, we are in a different world but mentally we still stick with our old ways, or made to by few who set our agenda pitting us at loggerheads against one another for their self-interests. The majority is not able to assert enough is enough and there is no enmity between people. Earliest times, we were not able to understand each other from different parts of the globe. Now mass communication at every level highlights the oneness of humanity and the uniqueness in each of us. We are one and the same but circumstances may still create artificial barriers. There is the simmering urge to put up a united front against injustices perpetrated against the vast majority. We want an inclusive ride and the barriers to come down most of which are in our minds only. We should realize what needs to be done before another knockout blow and then to pick up the pieces again. Do you think there is hostility among the vast majority? Image from Wikimedia

No I would say there is hostility in a minority of the people. I do believe we have come a long way in the last 50 years or so.

@Shiva49 I don't feel the politicans can be put in their place as we are only the citizens who elect them over and over again.

Yes some feel left out of the mainstream due to circumstances but they are a minority everywhere. And they tend to take out their frustrations on the rest. I feel we should use technology to break the impasse so that politicians are put in their place. then the majority will really triumphs - siva

@Marcyaz The problem even in countries that are supposed to enjoy democracy is the system has become totally corrupt. The politicians are master puppeteers and are at their game while in and out of power. They have made the political field a cesspool that the good dare not step in. The people are left to elect the best from the worst and those elected prove worse than those they blamed to get in to power! When the elections are decided based on an agenda, they are not allowed to carry it out as those defeated stall the democratic process. To break that impasse I feel technology can be used for people to vote on contentious issues - siva

I think there are equal amounts of hostility and love in the online world today my friend on the social sites. People can easily build up both rage and harmony all at once in mass numbers. It is fascinating I agree Siva.

I think there is more of difference of opinion and no real enmity that seems to pervade the real world. I feel the vast majority want to be left alone - live and let others live. They realize that we all can coexist and the fuel of enmity and hatred is being stoked by a minority - siva

@TiarasOceanView Thanks Ocean Tiara, it is more of expressing differing, dissenting, opinion than "off with his head" that is the reality in some parts of the world - siva

For me , with the social media , where everyone gets to give their opinions , people are more open to suggestions thus they can easily unite on a good cause .

@SIMPLYD It is in our interests that we stay united. We share even the air we breathe and the water we drink - siva

It is tougher to view anther as an enemy just because they are from a different country. We have so much in common as we have similar interests - siva

No I don't - I think that most of us are eager to get along with others and learn about them. No hostility at all. Social networking ( here and previously Bubblews) has been a revelation to me too - I never thought I would be able to have so many friends scattered across the globe.

I feel at most some take a strong view when their stand on issues are questioned. But that is just stating their point. We can always agree to disagree. I was having the most number of followers at another site Wikinut after a moderator and we had healthy exchange of divergent views though few did go overboard getting personal. But the vast majority coexisted finding harmony with those from all parts of the world like here. Social networking is a microcosm of the real world and few create havoc though they are a minority - siva

I keep hoping that with communication between all nations being so much easier that perhaps people will become more tolerant of others. I''m not sure it's happening yet.

@Shiva49 To an astronaut the earth would certainly appear as one world.

@JudyEv I think that is what it is meant to be - obviously we have lost the basic plot to coexist - siva

It is so easy to connect with another and to feel the underlying pulse of humanity with the advancement in communication. We realize we have so much in common especially with regard to our feelings, anxieties. I recall an astronaut exclaiming from up above "what a mind blowing sight of the living planet with no borders at all except the demarcation between land and sea" (not the exact wording) - siva

I think there are more seeking harmony. But there is a large group of people who come on line just to stir up trouble it seems.

@paigea At another site hitting below the belt for disagreeing was the norm for very few people. It was more of blind fury than logic - siva

I feel most want harmony though some will not budge an inch, sometimes, more to spite others. I have been on online sites for years and I find myLot is rather mild in terms of expressing dissenting and divergent opinion. At other sites I have seen few getting personal with their supporters, including non-members, chipping in with blind fury! Despite the ruckus they create they are a minority, thankfully - siva

I don't too but I see the vast majority at it and see how they are able to connect with anyone, anywhere, across the world. And your country is testament to the oneness of humanity attracting millions who find comfort there. I am not sure about heaven but for many America is the heaven including for those from supposed "enemy" countries - siva

I think a lot of people are frustrated, for various reasons. It is interesting how technology can unite us. But will it have an overall effect on the hatred that seems to dominate the news?
