Which is the Truth and Reality?

Reading and hearing the many news and commentaries I wonder where lies the truth and reality in our world. I feel we have become quite cynical to ignore the news, views and interviews that go around the clock. We have become immune to the fallout from intolerance that has been the bane of our species from time immemorial. What is proffered as truth is disproved over time with facts hidden to mislead the public. Without knowing who to believe we end up believing none. Some are painted as enemies but they become friends over time and vice versa. And then politicians are experts in changing tack while in power and when out of it. It is clear when we beat around the bush of truth and reality we will never get to solve our issues. In personal lives too we have to identify the truth and reality to have a smoother ride. How do you cope with this issue that none can avoid?

Yeah, that is the norm everywhere. Politicians try to convince at times twisting the facts to suit what they want us to believe. If they cannot convince, they sure confuse us! siva

@Shiva49 They really do confuse us with their half answers that make no sense.

@Marcyaz We are busy with our lives to an extent we have not much time to analyze in detail. And politicians are experts at trying to convince us it is night when it is day time. We are left to elect the best from the worst list and on getting elected many prove worse than those they despised and demonized. Cannot understand why "good people" want to be left alone! I recall the old saying - we get what we deserve - but I am sure we deserve better - siva

We cannot avoid the reality and truth. Better to face them head on. And we have many charlatans to contend with - siva

While there is very little truth in this world and there are very few people that we can trust that they speak the truth, if we are looking for the truth, then we need to ask questions, much like they do in a courtroom. 'Ask and we will receive. Search and we will find.' Do you have a subject where you would like to know the truth? John 17:17 New International Version (NIV) 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

@Shiva49 Here is an important observation on "truth." Whether few, most, some or none believe it, the truth is still the truth. The truth is not dependent on how many people believe it or not but it is based on knowledge of all the facts, even if the facts are not what one wants to accept. Example: a lie is a lie. Most people will color the lie such as a white lie, meaning that a small lie is acceptable. In a discussion on truth, Jesus Christ said to Pontius Pilate the following: John 18:37-38 New International Version (NIV) 37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” 38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him.

@1hopefulman Truth seems a moving target now. I feel most are like me - always speak the truth as that is the way for an honest living. To cut our link with endless revenge will be the greatest challenge ahead as an eye for eye is what is dictating our path. We have also to identify the truth and convince those that matter but people have different views about the core issues too like beliefs. I feel we will have to take up the challenge sooner or later to survive; give and take will serve us all better - siva

The fact of the matter is our beliefs are clear but the reality is different My take is the majority is short changed because they are divided. We have to agree on certain basics; otherwise we will forever carry the can for mistakes not committed by us. The good everywhere have to stand united against the few who dictate to them - siva

In a way it starts from god. There are many but who is the real deal? Anyway I have no issues. i share the same air with all and drink from the same source too! We have to find out the truth ourselves - that we are comfortable with - siva

The majority of people doesn't care. What matters to them is how to live even they are being fooled. The masses don't like to accept the facts.

Yes, that is the reality. The majority are busy looking after their own lives and know no one else can bail them out. So they are taken for granted by the wily few - siva

Being an idealistic I give up this thinking, decision making when it comes to such news, people etc. I have learned to be simple - take it as it comes. Yeah, change is eminent... people, relationships, perspectives do change and will continue to change. If I start bothering about these, there is more of pain involved. So for the sake of my peace, I have to stop judging, deciding what is true. Truth will surface no matter what happens... sooner or later. Oh as for politicos, these people are one of the last I would believe or even bother to listen to their speeches.

I am more like you. I was lamenting the state of affairs when the majority is led down the garden path with promises impossible to fulfill. And the many experts at it with their own axe to grind! As for me I am convinced there is no free lunch, okay maybe for a day. Those who promise beyond that are eyeing what little we have - siva

As always your posts are thought provoking and well written. Now I am wondering does this man speak the truth? Have we become cynical? Not sure what to focus on. Should it be truth in the world or my very own personal life. Where can I be most truthful?

Thanks for your motivation. Despite information in our fingertips, we still go around for finding truth and reality. I feel democracy is manipulated in poor countries where few hold sway over the rest with their hold on power and influence. We can find peace in our personal lives through our attitude but I think aloud why the wars, enmity and arms race when 99% want to live in peace - siva

Truth is unchanging but reality is a present condition that changes as all things do in real life. The truth is that God exists.. the reality is that some people do not believe in God. I guess experience is the real teacher.. In Christianity we call it the 'gift of discernment'.

I think most agree there is God, who is the creator, but their actions do not support their belief sadly. I hasten to add I do not cast aspersions on the majority but the reality of the world shows we are not able to control the few who run amok and leave others to clean up after them. We have to agree on few basics to get us out of the rut - siva

When I was small we believed anything we read, such was the power of print. Now I try to take things with a grain of salt. I am still very gullible if friends tell me things though.

@Shiva49 And an excellent saying to remember is that if a thing seems too good to be true, then it probably is.

I recall the fairy tales of yonder that I used to get enthralled with. Of course now they have much more variety to pass their time. I don't believe the "free" to "absolutely free" offers on the internet though my wife tends to get carried away! I convince her though people are kind but not that kind! siva
