Is Your Computer or Web Surfing Running Slow? Maybe it's the Browser.

Normally I use Chrome for my main browser, but for the longest time I have shockwave player crashes even after updating. Yesterday it took forever to go through a few notifications and then try to comment on different posts. It gets old after a while because I only have certain time-slots with which to mylot. I can't put it down for a bit and come back later because I'm probably working one job or another later. Today, I shut my chrome browser down completely and decided to try firefox again. Goodness, should have done this long ago. I've gotten a pop up that says the Adobe, (shockwave) flash player is disabled as it's outdated, but otherwise it loads quickly, allows me to respond or comment easily, and I can actually get things done in the time I've set aside to spend here. Maybe the update I thought I got from Chrome was still an old update, I don't know, but I think I'll be using firefox again for a while until it starts having issues. Has anyone else switched browsers when one begins slowing down? And here, I thought it was my computer.

I use chrome and it's fine for me. Is it just here where chrome was slow or other sites too?

Wherever I am usually. Mostly here, but it affects facebook too. Those are the two sites I have opened up most of the time.

@MarshaMusselman No idea then. I'd say it may be your connection although if the speed improves using another browser that isn't the case.

@MarshaMusselman The Adobe shockwave flash player tends to crash periodically even after it get updated. It's that which causes the slowness most times. When that has no issues, then the site I'm visiting has no other problems and things move along faster.

Sometimes it could be due to a virus or viruses. It may be a good idea to run a anti-virus or a cleaning program to see if there's any other bug that's slowing down your computer besides the browser.

The rest of my computer works fine at present, and I have a good virus detection program running all the time. I do need to renew my malwarebytes program, but I'm trying not to download anything that would bring that type of thing in right now. Thanks for the ideas though.

@MarshaMusselman Yes, one needs to be extra careful about downloading any software especially those that purportedly says it's good for removing malware when they are actually malware out to steal info or cause problems to your PC.

@succeednow Yes, I know there are bad ones out there, but the one I had before is one my computer specialist recommended. It worked great, but I've not had the extra funds to renew it yet this year.

I've done that quite often in the past, but when time is short, switching over to firefox is much easier. Now this morning it's running quicker again on chrome. Why it's bad one day and not every day the same is hard to fathom.

Firefox used to use the shockwave player too and crashed somewhat just not as often as chrome might, but recently it said that player was outdated. It looks like it's working fine without it.

I tend to use different browsers for different sites because some run faster than others, but not on all sites (if that makes sense). It's been a lot of trial and error and at least for now, things are good.

I tend to stick to the same one on all my sites at least until it begins having issues. Usually it takes me some time to remember to try a different browser when one of them is acting up. Sometimes I need to reboot my computer and that takes care of it. I have cleared my cache and browsing history before too, but when it's an issue with the flash player, nothing I do helps much.

I usually just use whichever browser the operating system supplies. If I run Microsoft Windows I use Microsoft Edge, whereas when I install Linux I use the default Firefox.

The only time I have slow response time is here on mylot, no other site gives me slow responses. I did have my browser hijacked a while back so I did a factory reset and it's been working fine ever since.

I think they each have the problems any given day. Today, Chrome is working for me again, but firefox may be just a tad faster. But, I've had firefox crash in the past just like chrome will, so who knows.

Sounds like something worth looking into with all the problems I've been having with shockwave.

I use Internet Explorer for most of my online stuff, well except for Swagbucks. I run that on Chrome. With two monitors I can have two browsers open at once. It works out well.

I always thought that IE was the worst browser to use since most of the viruses are made for that one, but maybe they've upped their watchful eye for that more.

there are two things i know why your computer is slow.1.somebody is connected to your internet that's why it becomes slow. 2. is your computer is old and need to buy a new one

Most people can't buy a new computer every few years. Mine is older but not that old. It runs windows 7 currently. We have several in the family that uses the same line via the wifi, but even then, there are good days and bad days and not always when others are online at the same time, so I don't think that's it.

I did that many times when I was using my desktop. I also deleted my browsing history every now and then and it helps to load faster. Now I'm Using my iPad mini with the Safari browser. So far it's good and loads faster always.
