There were no real surprises for the number three seed in his match against Steve Johnson. Federer comfortably won the first two sets, 6-2, 6-3. Johnson proved a bit more difficult in the third and final set, managing to hold onto his serve better, until Federer broke it and took the score to 6-5 to Federer, with the Swiss serving to win the game. Which he then did, winning the set 7-5 and sending him through to the quarter-finals. Image: Freeimages.com

Not really a shocking outcome. Based on seedings, wouldn't #3 Federer conceivably meet #2 Murray in the semi's despite #1 out?

I can't quite remember how the tree is set up, but I think number 1 is supposed to play number 3 in the semis, and number 2 number 4. So it could be a Murray/Federer final in that case.

@egdcltd Usually in competition its 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3. At this point a Federer-Murray final is what everyone wants.

@JohnRoberts I've found the tree on the Wimbledon site. Murray and Federer can only meet in the final. Federer is playing Marin Cilic in the next round.

Theoretically Murray should beat him. He's got a higher ranking, both in the tournament and in the world (of course, so has Djokovic).
