Why Some People Opt To Work Abroad?

My sister works in Kuwait as DH, same with my sister in law who are in Hongkong. Some of my cousins are also working abroad. "To have a better future." This is what they said. Words that seem they can never find a greener pasture in the Philippines so they decided to work as a domestic helper. With such work, many would consider this as low class work... but with higher salary. That is the fact in the country, you cannot find a stable job here. You need to work as helper in other country even if you graduated a bachelor's degree here. Even those working here are receiving lower salaries comparing to them. The only option for them to help their family is to work abroad.

Yup, like my father. He also worked there until all of us three kids graduated from college. Now he is back at home.

To be honest, I dreamt also of working abroad at a very young age. It does not mean that I do not love our country. I think I just have been always a curious person. But some Filipinos whom I talked to told me that it is better to stay here since I already have a stable job and a part-time job too. Aside from that, it is better here so I can be with my family. But I am a very stubborn person. My parents always contradicted me. When my dad passed away, my mom was the only one opposing my idea. As I only have one mom and knowing she is old already, I listened to her and just stay here in our country. I am the only one who is not yet married and my mom does not like staying with my married siblings.

@ilocosboy So, just like me you are curious too or you just want a greener pasture? Many people leave our country for a variety of reasons. Some leave because of love in which they have to be with their foreign husband or wife . Others leave because they do not like our government system.

That's really the fact in our country. I also worked across the country before to earn more than in our country. We just hope the new president will give more stable employment to our fellow men.

Sometimes you have to leave your own country to find peace and happiness.

It's sad that families are split up due to there not being suitable work in your country. I've seen many Filipinos working on cruise ships and they are unfailingly cheerful and hard working.

That is right Jabo, even in your country many Filipinos are working there as DH because you offer much higher salary. In here, the uniformed jobs can received a monthly salary of $100 to $200 and yet you pay us $400 or higher in a job as house helper.

@ilocosboy Until I started blogging I had no idea people worked outside their countries. It is indeed a sacrifice of love.

the two years of absence in the family is really hard to cope. But if this is called love, then this sacrifice is love.

Ever read that there are no job scarcity, but there is just the job mismatch. There was a time that Nurses are wanted in almost every foreign countries. So a lot of people took nursing courses, but at the time they graduate, and gain experiences - all others who are already working as nurses here have gone abroad already thereby filling in those vacancies. Now those who are just graduating end up working in the call center (glad they accept as long as you are trainable). But see there is a mismatch already. the job vacancies and the requirements does not match the applicants and i can say this happens to our company too, where we have a lot of vacancies and our HR cannot find replacements of lost employees. I get it that there are better offers in other countries, but we have to take into consideration you are at the mercy of your employers when you go there - even if they give you abour 20K salary a month as a domestic helper, they let you work at least 14hours a day! I have friends who worked in Kuwait too and they barely get 8 hour sleep. If you compute the 20K and you only get about 12K in the Philippines since as you say, they are graduates of university - which is better? an 8 hour work and 2 days off and near your family, or a 20K salary abroad, far from your family, no day offs (or 1 day off)?

i think if a family member decides to work overseas, the rest of his family should also do their part, like finishing their studies, being faithful to their spouse, being careful with the money and things being sent to them.

if only this applies to all, there should be no more difficulties and problems in the family.

If we can only find a work here that gives higher salary, I think no one will go out the country to work. The problem here in our country is the salary who offers very little.

if the salaries here, and there are more work for the newly graduated professionals then those who plan to go abroad will just be a handful, but it is not.

It is sad that some mothers have to leave their children to take care of children overseas just to earn. We are hooping that the Duterte administration will help Filipinos find more jobs here and with the right salaries.

We leave our children here just to be paid in other country to work as care giver to children.
