Police Incident

We had a surprise when we came into our apartment building today. A police car was sitting in front of the next apartment building. We saw nothing else unusual and came on into our apartment. I went out on the deck to make a phone call and heard people yelling, something we never hear, the shouting kept on and on. I was afraid someone was holding hostages at another apartment, or something worse. It sounded like someone was being badly hurt. At first I thought a policeman might be using a taser on someone, but I thought he wouldn't continue to do it as the man kept screaming. My sister heard it on her end of the telephone and was as concerned as I was. It finally stopped and after a little while, I went out front to see if the police car was still there, it wasn't and I hope nobody was hurt. I feel sure someone was taken in custody. It's the first time in my life I have seen anything like it. Have you ever had an incident like this?

I had to call the police when our next door neighbour went on a rampage running into things with his truck. We saw the police drag him into the police car. The next day he was back home.

@RubyHawk I know. I am glad we don't live next door to them anymore, but sad for the children from that home.

That happens all too often. Just a tap on the wrist and the culprit is home.

I haven't come across an incident like that thus far in my life and I really hope not to. I would imagine it can be a little bit unnerving to experience, and it sounds like that would be terrible to hear with the screaming.

I was. I thought the police might have come into a bad situation and might be having to take someone in that didn't want to go with them.

i bet such 'twas most unnervin', ms. ruby. they'd a 'manhunt' out here'n the wee hours 'f the morn. dunno if'n 'twas due to their firework shootin' 'r what? jest know that the sheriff's dept, state police 'n fire crew were out'n full force with flood lights huntin' all 'round fer't least a 4 mile radius. 'bout 5 that morn a wrecker came by with a smashed car.

@RubyHawk if'n such'd only been the sheriff's department, i'd not thought much'f 't. 'twas most disturbin' 'n fer once we actually locked the place'p. shocked that the back door lock still works. now, if'n only we'd a key! 'fter 35 years such seems to've gone missin'

Maybe a bunch drinking and acting crazy, it is disturbing with these things going on around you. That sounds like a real man hunt at your place.

I remember once calling the police about a woman being shoved around in a house across the street from where I lived. They arrived within about three minutes and intervened. When I was in the Military Police at Fort Ord, CA, back in the 1960s, being called to family disputes was common and quite unpleasant and dangerous too.

I hear a family dispute is one of the most dangerous situations a police officer can get into.

Yes. I was driving, my son was with me and we happened to see a police situation on a sidewalk where a police officer forced a guy onto the ground and handcuffed him. I had never seen anything even close to that except in the movies or on television.

I have never seen the police arrest anyone or take them in other than on TV. It must have been scary.

@RubyHawk It wasn't as much scary for me as it was interesting to watch, mostly because I had never seen anything like it either outside of television.

@just4him It would be interesting to see how they go about it if there was no violence.

NO not really it is pretty quiet in our neighborhood. I would have found it upsetting

It was upsetting, but maybe nobody was hurt or we would have heard on the news.

Sounds like it would have been unnerving to hear all that screaming but guess the police handled it

Once, I was visiting my son in the city. The police converged on a house across the street . Someone took every person in the house away. The children went with CPS. A couple of people left in ambulances. A few others were shoved into cop cars. I never found out what happened, but it must have been bad. They were there for hours.

We usually don't really know what goes on in our neighbors house. I hear of murders of people who were thought to be good people, and it turns they are anything but.

How awful. Years ago we lived in a down at heels trailer park. At one point something went down cause suddenly cops with rifles and dogs showed up. I made all the little kids get into my trailer for a while.

That was the best thing to do. You wouldn't want kids to be out in the middle of anything dangerous.

No, I haven't but we haven't often lived around enough people to engender that sort of excitement. It would be nice to know what it was all about.

I'm curious too, but the leasing wont tell you anything they think might be upsetting. Of course they don't want to lose tenants.

I once looked out my living room window and saw a man punch and kick another man who appeared to be drunk, then he ran away. A few minuets later the police came and arrested the man who got beat up.

Gosh, I wish you know what happened. My worst police incident was when the man in the house behind us started shooting his rifle in the air. The S.W.A.T. team invaded our home and made us leave. We saw them arrive and swarm over the neighborhood from our upstairs window. They invaded multiple homes overlooking his. Turns out the man was let go from the police department for mental issues. He was later reinstated. I never felt completely comfortable about that.

I wouldn't have felt safe with him on the lose either. We never know how many mentally deficient people live around us, and it might be good that we don't.
