When I was in the second year in university, my Zoology 102 instructed to find a big fat furry cat. As part of the curriculum, the medical students are going to study the anatomy of a cat. I never thought that we are going to be instructed to kill a cat. In the class, we were grouped into five. Each of this group will go to provide a cat. My group and I look for a big fat furry cat. On that same day, we were instructed to kill the cats. I was furious and feel bad about the idea. My groupmate performs the killing session by letting the cat sleep with the use chloroform and the teacher instructed to inject formalin to the lethargic cats until they will die. It was like torturing someone to die as done by criminals. With such an act, I felt like we are criminals in killing cats. The worst part, the cats will be dissected. Photo Credit: pixabay.com

You started with frogs before cats right? My sister is a doctor and I remember how I hate my parents when they ask her to use my cat for dissection because he pooped inside the house. I still hate my parents for it.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Oh,my! I am sure you were so devastated. My grandma has her cats in the house. I never volunteered to catch it and be killed by someone. Are you from Metro?

@CaptAlbertWhisker You got it right. We had dissected sea animals such as turtles, frogs, sharks, etc. Then, the cat. It was a total package to study the systems that resemble the human body. It is nice that your sister didn't dare to kill your cat.

Awww I might not be able to handle seeing a cat being killed. But well, it is part of the curriculum.

I think it happens in most medical schools here in our country.

@brokenbee I think they are starting to use dummies. But it is not the same in actual like the bloody flesh of meat.

@Shavkat Yup, even in other countries like US. But I think I have read lately that they (US) will no longer make use of these animals in medical schools.

Why not wait until they die naturally. I'd put that asanimalneglect and abuse.

It's surely animal cruelty. The university can try 3d images or dummy for the practical. In your description it is like a cold blooded murder.

I would have refused to have participated @Shavkat on the grounds of animal cruelty.

I am not into such an act. But the medical students don't have the choice. Since it is one of the requirement to reach the medical proper.
