This strange new Pokemon Go craze

My daughter came downstairs this morning and wants to try out the Pokemon Go app. I guess it is a big new craze. Sounds similar to geocaching but not as fun.
Right down the street is the start place for her. I decided since it would get her out of the house I would download the app for her to use. Unfortunately my junky phone is not compatible with the app as you can see from the screenshot that I posted.
From what she told me you go to these spots and basically check in on your phone that you found then. Then you unlock things to play online with others. Has anyone here tried it yet? I see all over facebook people talking about it.

...now I feel all awkward admitting exactly how many Pokemon I've caught between yesterday and today.
It's actually kind of fun, although nothing like the Pokemon games for Nintendo consoles. It doesn't support trading at all from what I can tell, and the augmented reality stuff doesn't work on my tablet. They have real-world locations set up as the Pokestops, where you can apparently get more in-game items... beats me how they work, since the stupid thing doesn't come with a tutorial. That aspect of the game is actually pretty neat, because they have things like historical markers and points of interest like local artwork set up for the Pokestops, and a lot of them have fairly detailed information in the app.
It doesn't really compare to the other Pokemon games very well, though. A lot of the staples of the franchise, like the ability to directly challenge a friend to battles, just aren't present in it.

Both of my kids learned about it on youtube by watching some of their favorite youtubers play it. My daughter was able to capture some around our yard using the wifi. Other then that we can't do anything with it as it won't work on my cell phone :( She caught at least 5 today I think.

@shaggin I have the best luck in stores so far... caught 5 in Sam's Club yesterday, and there were a bunch just hanging out around me while I was sitting in the drive through at McDonald's this morning. Wonder if they plan it that way...

It is definitely the hype right now! But I read tons of accidents like a man stopped in the middle of the road to catch Pokemon or something. Very dangerous.

@infatuatedbby People are just to careless when it comes to their phones :( Like texting and driving. I have no interest in the app either. It seems really dumb to me. My daughter is liking what she can play of it. We have to only use it in wifi areas since I can't use it on my phone.

I have not play geocaching before. I just knew about it and it sounds interesting to me. I have not heard about this Pokemon Go app as well, I wonder if we can play it here (while we are not in United States).
It sounds like a kind of treasure hunt to me, and it sounds fun!
Hope your daughter will enjoy playing it.

I have this app and i do play it but i dont used it alot. It consumes alot of the battery of the phone because you need to connect with wifi and gps.
The concept is pretty, you go around the map finding pokemon and catching them. But sometimes i am too lazy to even try.

My daughter has it and as far as I know, you go to various places and when she finds a pokemon, she takes a picture. However, Isee some have warned you about this game. If you are getting this for your daughter you need to make it very clear to ALWAYS be aware of her surroundings and to NEVER go anywhere she where feels uncomfortable.
There have been many car accidents and muggings due to people playing this game, it can be dangerous if she is not paying attention. Also, a computer friend shared a link on how this app will be able to get into your e-mail and other sites. It has been a while since she posted the link, but if I see it, I will post the link here for you.

I did just see some warnings about this app. They have fake apps out there for people from other countries to try but they are just viruses that will ruin their phones. My daughter can only use this on her tablet when its connected to wifi which is in and around our home or if we are out at Mcdonalds etc. She's not allowed to leave our property without me or another adult so she is safe.

I have a dumpy phone so I can't download the app on it. I am bummed about it for my kids but it is not something I would enjoy playing myself. I like geocaching much more.

Oh yes, it's a craze here too...
Hundreds of gamers are congregating at nights all glued to their mobiles at some parks which apparently an intersection of two Pokestops or something like that... Residents in the area are not too happy with the noise and mess they make though...
