Steroids and the Police

This would have never occurred to me except for a routine traffic stop I had. The officer who pulled me over was unusually muscular and worryingly aggressive. I got the impression that if I set him off he'd drag me out of my car and beat the crap out of me. I've seen this before in sports but never by someone in this field. It bothered me enough to Google it.
For fun try it yourself. Google steroid abuse and law enforcement or police. Think of all the instances of police brutality that are coming up on social media and the regular media. There is a problem. Why is this not part of the current debate going on?

The FBI in the US identified it as a problem more than a decade ago. Doing something or even discussing it doesn't seem to fit anyone's agenda right now.

@TheHorse I think most of them are smart enough not to use steriods but there are a few who will do that sort of thing for a number of reasons. Aggressive behaviour can have other causes, I just think this has been an issue that has been swept under the carpet.

That isn't good, steroids not only causes aggression, but serious health issues too.

I don't understand why it isn't being addressed. My wife's brother was a two time Quebec bodybuilding champion. Finished sixth in the Mr. Universe competition in Las Vegas one year. He's a great guy but apparently not so great when he was using the steroids. Fortunately he got a scare, listened to his doctor and went natural after that.

@paigea We all are. I honestly think the consequences would have put him in the ground before now had he kept going.

I had to laugh, thinking of our local police department and the serious lack of muscle-men on it. Not to mention the lack of muscle-women. Lots of women police officers, here. Well, there's one... Nope, it's the firemen who have the big muscles around here and I am pretty glad of it because if they ever needed to carry me out, well, they will need big muscles. And it wouldn't bother me a bit if one of them was a bit aggressive and decided to crash through burning flames to save me.

Steroid use wouldn't be a problem everywhere. I haven't noted obvious aggressive bahaviour with the RCMP officers I've encountered here in New Brunswick but back in Ontario I noticed. One particular force which will remain nameless was quite well known for it's aggressive members. A nearby force was known to have members with steroid use problems.

@TheHorse I've moved around a lot and different places and police forces have different characters. Generally the RCMP in New Brunswick here worry me less than the police in Ontario.

@koopharper I've never seen overly aggressive cops here in the Bay Area. But that doesn't mean there aren't some out there.

I imagine there are only a percentage of them that use steroids but we know they are there. Increased aggressive behaviour is a well known result of taking them. I don't know why this isn't even being talked about.

@koopharper I wonder if those involved in shootings have been tested.

I never thought about this before. It could be true. I told this about this to my mother. She also thinks it could be true too.

thee is a problem also. If they are mild and sympathetic they can not do their work.

The general public should respect the police, not fear them. Police cannot effectively work with the public if the people are afraid to cooperate with them.
