What Are They Hiding?

The only piece of mail I received today was a flyer from some mysterious organization, touting a forthcoming series of sermons on the book of Revelation, being held in a hotel conference room near me.
No church or denomination affiliation.
No local sponsorship.
Nothing but the name of the speaker. And the internet revealed nothing on him.
That in itself is highly suspicious.
The flyer says this guy is "a consecrated theology student who excels in his field of study, the Bible." Well, if that's true, then you should find someone -- anyone -- who has referenced him, seen him, praised him, condemned him, anything. But there is nary a thing to be found on this guy.
Why the secrecy? What are they hiding? You never saw Billy Graham doing this. Even the shysters (cough-cough PTL, which a friend always said "stands for 'pass the loot'") and the jerks (cough-cough Fred Phelps) are easily located on the internet. You don't ever find any Christian denomination hiding who they are (just what they are).
I wonder how many people are going to show up for this. I know I won't. If they can't be up front on the invitation then they aren't worth my time, no matter how much or little I might agree with them.

Maybe you're on some sort of religious mailing list.
I throw that sort of post in the recycling.
I talk to those that used to come to my door about religion but that's about it.
Now I live in a big house with a secure communal door I doubt I'll get many of those callers.
Most, if not all, organised religions are at heart a business and I have no time for them.

The way it's addressed everyone in the neighborhood got one ("our neighbors at [address]").
I totally agree with you that religion, especially here in the States, has become a business. One sermon I was watching on You Tube mentioned a "pastors retreat" that had seminars on "how to raise more money."
That's a far cry from the rabbi who turned over the tables at the Temple and said, "My Father's house is a house of prayer but you've turned it into a den of thieves," isn't it?

@FourWalls I don't actually believe in any religion but I've more time for the people that come round to talk than those that spam me via email or snail mail.
