Going Back to Recess

It was probably fifth grade when I started hating recess. Well, not recess as much as gym class. I didn't like being sweaty, or changing into gym clothes. So in fifth grade I mostly read during recess. And I always was happy when I had a valid excuse to be excused from gym class (I was horribly self-conscious).
But I do remember when I enjoyed recess and/or gym class. I liked playing Red Rover as a very young child (anyone else play that?), but while I enjoyed dodge ball at first, the older the boys got, the harder they were able to throw the ball. And it could hurt!
What were some of the games you like to play back then? I played basketball in junior high and high school, but didn't really enjoy it after I got to the 7th grade. My coach was kind of hard to get along with.
So, how many had a favorite game, and how many hated recess or gym class?

During recess I enjoyed eating snacks at the canteen with my friends or reading magazines and Nancy Drew books in the library. My sports back then was volleyball.

I disliked gym class too, it was mandatory to take in grades 9 and 10 and we all develop differently, so the change rooms were an awkward experience that we'd all love to forget!
I remember we'd stand in line of about 3 girls and the first girl would take a tennis ball and throw it against the wall and let it come back and bounce once, then she'd jump it, and then the next girl and the last one. I don't know if the game had a name, but I remember a lot of rubber and tennis balls got lost on the flat roof of the part of the school wall that we played this near.
