A milestone feud was reached today, I'm not referring to a legendary family dispute such as what took place between the Hatfields and McCoys back in the day. No, today is a day to celebrate this feud, as it's one that has provided laughter and entertainment to millions of Americans over the last 40 years!
Today is the 40th anniversary of the game show Family Feud! On July 12, 1976, the game show aired its original episode on the ABC network, with Richard Dawson hosting. During its run on the ABC network, the show was the network's highest rated daytime offering.
Even 40 years later, the show is still going strong, currently being hosted by comedian Steve Harvey. Although it has gone through a handful of hosts over the years, the format and setup of the game show has remained the same, and has appealed to the masses, and has proven its durability. To this day, it remains one of the most popular and legendary game shows.
Are you a fan of the Feud?

What is the name of the game show in your country? In America it's called "Family Feud," but in Britain it's called "Family Fortunes."

I don't like it now as much as I used to, but that's mainly because I'm not a big Steve Harvey fan. I just don't find him funny at all, even though many people really like him. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I really miss the days of Richard Dawson. Remember how he used to kiss every one of the female contestants? He probably loved being the host of that show just for that reason! lol

It was such a great show with Richard Dawson as the host! To me, he's what made that show so successful!

@just4him I enjoyed watching the show until he left, as well. When Richard Dawson left, the show went on a "hiatus" for several years until the network brought it back with Ray Combs as host. Interesting, Richard Dawson came back for two seasons in the mid-90's, but by that time I was in college and didn't watch the game show anymore.

@moffittjc Yes he did. I lost interest when he was no longer the host.

@moffittjc I adore Family Feud so much. We have our Aussie version here and I like the host. He does really well with it. If I wasn't so shy, I'd sign up for it. My dad, I and sometimes my brother sits down to watch it and I get top answers a lot. I play it often on my iPad too cause I downloaded the app. I LOVE the game so much.

We have got to figure out how to break you out of your shell, and figure out how to overcome that shyness! I bet you would be great on that show!

That's my problem these days, I'm just so busy that I don't have time to watch TV as much as I'd like. Every now and then I will watch an episode of the game show, but unfortunately I don't have time to watch it every day.

It's called 'Family Fortunes' over here and they only bother making rubbish celebrity ones these days. I used to love it when I was younger.

In my younger days I watched it religiously! I wish I had more time these days to watch it as much as I did when I was a kid.

Elizabeth from the UK says it's called "Family Fortunes" in Britain. And I agree with you...I've seen some amazing game shows that were absolutely brilliant, and I've seen game shows that left me scratching my head and saying, "What were they thinking?"
