Read a post here and got me thinking what l will do if the power went out at night. We`ve never had any power outage at night, none that l can remember and im terrified of darkness. But l have a flashlight i`ve had for over 20 years. The funny thing, l have never used it,never had a need to but l always make sure it`s working. Do you have some gadget for emergency that you`ve had for years but never used?

I cannot remember power outage, but I also have a flashlight and a candle with a zippo lighter in the first drawer of my nightstand.

@miniam I have several candles around the house, at least one per floor, I do not like the idea to find myself in the dark.

When I just saw your title, and hadn't opened up the post yet to read, the first thing that popped into my mind was my heavy duty flashlight! So it's funny that you mentioned that in your post! lol Anyway, I bought this super duty flashlight specifically for emergencies such as power outages and hurricanes and things like that, and--knock on wood--I haven't ever had to use the flashlight yet!

@miniam Well, unfortunately at some point I'm going to need it. I live in Florida, so we always have to be ready for hurricanes every year! We've been extremely lucky over the past 10 years, but that cycle of calmness can't last forever! We're past due to get hit by a hurricane!

I have lived through a few blackouts. But now if we had a power outage I don't know how I will be able to deal with it. I love being online, especially here. I would be lost for sure.

If your laptop is in full power,it should be going for a while( assuming you`re using a laptop)

@miniam No I am not using a laptop. But I do have my iPad and iPhone. If there is another blackout, so be it. They do happen from time to time. We just have to live through them.

@inertia4 Like your positive thinking, you can't change anything by worrying, there is a black out,do something else till the lights come back.

We put in a generator, but only had to use it once. It was awesome! Of course, I have a lot of clothes with the labels still on them!

I have candles which I use all the time. There's some light to shine on the idea. However I do have camping gas stove that has never been taken out of the packet. Bought for emergencies.

@miniam Mostly our power goes out when we have huge storms, you don't get that where you live?

We do not have outages here, once in 5 years, they will perform planned maintenance so we`ll not have power for a few hours, but they do inform us months earlier so we are prepared.

Candles is about all we have. When we lived over at the other apartment before we moved here(across the main street and down a few blocks) we had a transformer go out about 3a. Power was notified and it took them about four hours to get a new transformer brought down and reinstalled. I used to watch this show on cable about being ready for the apocalypse and how different people/families are readying themselves. Pretty interesting.

I always have flashlights etc on hand in case the power goes out but I can't think of anything I have that I haven't used. Hopefully I'll never have an emergency that requires something I don't have on hand

I hate power outrage specially of I am in the middle of baking something. It did happen many times that in the end I bought gas oven. Flashlight was always handy in times of no electricity.
