I Find Myself Wondering

I find myself wondering if posting a post about a discussion being deleted and not knowing why iis another discussion that will be deleted.
People are discussing it.
It does not spam.
On the other hand, I am not certain it is helpful, or useful.
For the record: I did NOT report the discussion.
As @M_L and I both pointed out. Admin can tell you why your discussion(s) were deleted. Then you can avoid making the same mistake again.
I thought about suggesting that the discussion was likely to be deleted as well.
I could report that discussion. Then @GoAskAlex could decide if the discussion has enough merit to stand.

I had a discussion deleted last week that had over 70 responses on it, and I asked Alex about it. He was very fair and explained that it was due to 'personal negativity', and that he had also deleted a post that was a thinly veiled attack on me for writing that post.
Mine was the post in which I asked if people thought that getting a lot of responses was suspicious, as a certain person had said that 'like farms' were rife here. I didn't name that person, but I accepted Alex's decision without protest. I certainly would never have made a post about being deleted.

I am a little surprised at that, but we can all take a page from your book, since you shared, and not be negative about the site, or our companions here. I had responded to that discussion. You have stated this in a positive and informative way that should help us all.

@Mike197602 Yes - their rules, but I can understand why they deleted it. I think that they were concerned that it would develop into a slanging match, but that would not have happened because I just ignored the other post. I know for a fact that someone reported it (the other post), because they (the reporter) told me.

No way should that have been removed.
but it's their site so we just have to go by their rules as there are no similar/better places to go at the moment.

sometimes the why was my discussion deleted discussions get removed other times they seem to stay up.
To be honest some people are a bit thick, they get told what they've done breaks the rules then do it again a few times and don't seem to accept they've done anything wrong.
Saw one guy the other day have it totally explained why his discussion was removed then go down the rest of the responses insisting he'd done nothing wrong

The people who keep insisting that they've done nothing wrong are, you can be sure, on a 'watch list'. Sooner or later, they either come to their senses and become stalwart members (I know a few of thiose) or they continue on their merry way and sooner or later find themselves unable to log in. I've seen a few of those, too.

I am not sure what the problem is with those. It happens to me when I go look as well. I thought perhaps there was a glitch. I could ask Bugs about that the next time.

@ElicBxn Maybe that is it. Most of the ones that interest me do not sound like something that would be deleted, unless people are doing it themselves.

@else34 someone else said that Alex does not keep records of the deletions. We need to re read the rules when our posts are deleted so that we will not make the same mistakes over and over, or complain about it.

@GardenGerty Certainly. We must read the rules and regulations again so that we may not face any deletions in future.

According to the OP this was not any of the forbidden topics. I just would not put it out there like a complaint if it happened to me. It was like he was whining or tattling.

I just hope they send you a pm, telling you it was and why, at least for people like us who are regulars, if I run afoul of a rule, I want to know what it was!

I do not recall ever having one deleted myself. I think you need to ask if one is deleted and find out why.

I would want to know why my discussion was deleted, so I did not make the same mistake again. I would not put it as a discussion subject, but would ask someone directly.

Other than where emergency action is required I believe it is fairest if @GoAskAlice were to leave a message for the person whose discussion is about to be deleted, that person should have 48 hours to respond and state why their discussion should not be deleted and perhaps edit out the offending parts.

Sometimes the rules are deliberately flaunted, and they should expect immediate removal. In this case, I never saw the discussions, so perhaps if this poster had been warned he would have changed. I pm ed someone one time when she put up a post that was against guidelines. I was not rude but I said she should delete it before someone reported it. Her response "We shall see". It did get reported and taken down.

@GardenGerty The extremely offensive posts should be removed without hesitation, but marginal ones are a different matter. Some people were not aware that what they said broke the rules, their anger shined through, they should have the chance to correct their error and let cooler heads prevail.

Hmm, I couldn't find if @GoAskAlex answered your question. However, I believe if someone is able to find out why a discussion was deleted, then by posting about it, then that is against the rules.

That was how I felt. I also feel it is inappropriate to complain if it has been explained. I never saw that my wondering was resolved either. In the big scheme of things, it probably is unimportant.

I am in the dark about this kind of thing. I hope I dont write something they'll have t delete as I have a hard enough time as it is . I;v e been working on myLot and have earned $7.99 and now I'm at $2.65. Anyone have any idea when I will get paid?

If you had over five dollars in your account and your paypal is correctly entered in your profile you should have been paid on the fifteenth. It looks as if you were if you dropped from $7.99 to $2.65. If it did not arrive in your paypal, you should find out why. If you post things that can be discussed you should not have any problem with having a discussion deleted.

There are a lot of people here who start out reading the most recent discussions and sometimes then discussions get reported and maybe deleted before they have hardly been up. I did not know anything about the discussions that got deleted. I only saw the discussion afterwards.

ive had one discussion in the past deleted before. i agree, it would help if we got a reason as to why it was deleted so that maybe we can correct something in it or know not to make the mistake again. And a chance to defend the post, after all whats the point of asking people to post thier thoughts if its only going to bet deleted because a single person didnt agree with it.

Just because someone disagrees with a post does not mean it will get deleted. Admin will judge if it violates terms of use and guidelines. If it gets deleted and you ask why, generally they will tell you why, where you went wrong, and how to do it differently, if possible.

@GardenGerty ive asked and no one was able to give me an answer. which is why i feel that there needs to be a rule or something of a sort of when a persons post gets deleted, that the person should be notified by the admin/whom ever doing the deletion, as to the reason why.

I likely would only know if I were to go looking for it and it not be there. Or if someone were to ask me about it. As far as I know I have not ever had one deleted.

I always go to recent discussions. Basically someone said "two of my discussions got deleted and I am sad." I do not believe that is considered to be a discussion in that form. I am sort of waiting to see.

I had discussions that were deleted and I just reviewed the site's guidelines. I have no qualms about reporting discussions that obviously violate the rules of the site.
I do agree that it will be helpful if the site admin will notify us about the reason/s why we have our discussions deleted. Saves everyone the guessing game.

No, that is the point. We do not know why the discussion was deleted as we never saw it. It is not a good discussion to post and say "I am sad my post got deleted" unless they can then say "it was for this reason. . . " then we could discuss with them. Meanwhile, the person with the deleted discussion needs to talk to admin to find out why to avoid making the same mistake a second time.

I agree with you, they should ask the admin the reason for the deletion instead of posting another post (discussion) about the deleted post.
