About Kombucha, Anne makes her own

Yes, she makes it and she drinks it too. I tasted some Kombucha once and that was enough for me. But, she seems to like it and has not had any problems resulting from it. Kombucha is a fermented tea concoction that is supposed to be healthful and good for the immune system. But, there is no medical evidence backing these claims up.
The heart of Kombucha is the combination of bacteria and yeast that makes up the active ingredient called the "scoby." Viewing the scoby is enough to prevent me from drinking the product that results from brewing.
Technology plays a part in Anne's brewing process too. During the two week brewing period, the whole thing must be kept at a warm temperature (80 to 90 degrees F), so, she wraps the jug in a small plastic crate and tucks the computer router and modem around it.
As you see in the photo, her final product, from various teas and flavored with some fruit juice, comes out clear and ready to drink, but not for me.
The shelves in the coolers of local grocers are filled with commercial Kombucha. Have you seen a lot where you live? Do you drink it?
So, now I must revise this to be fair. Anne had a meeting with several women from one of her art quilting groups today. Speaking from personal experience, they all decried and denied the part about no health benefits, echoing what said in
a comment, that the medical and Big Pharma folks won't want any natural remedies interfering with the sale of their services and prescription sales.
It is interesting that one of those ladies cultivates some marijuana on her rural home deck.

And nothing bad grows in there? I would worry about food poisoning.

No, it is all clean and sealed in a jug then put in the plastic crate. I guess it is sort of like home brewing.

@jillybean1222 I am super careful about food. If I'm not, I end up in the E.R. The last time was very dangerous. Needed to be hospitalized in isolation on IV antibiotics for two days.

Yogurt does that to me. Creates too much bloat. Isn't it funny how too much of a good thing can be, well, not good?
My step-dad drinks a lot of Kefir...and he drinks it straight, which makes me want to
But it's improved a lot of his health issues.

I do not drink it, but have seen it bottled on shelves. I make my own yogurt though. It is not quite the same kind of things.

I have tried to make kombucha twice now and neither time worked out very well. I will try again! I found a Kombucha made by "Hummm" (the real brand name) that is really good, but pricey and I can't afford to buy it often, so I have to learn to make my own.

I suppose I should try it. But like you, the idea of it just seems, well, unappealing. But I know plenty of ladies who brew their own.
