Ever dropped something you loved down a drain?

I wear this gold ring on my thumb a lot that my Aunty gave me many years ago. Sometimes I will wear it in the shower and other times, I take it off. Tonight, I kept it on while having a shower. I was standing there under the hot water just day dreaming haha because I do that sometimes. Until I heard a weird sound down below and oh my goodness! I felt like my heart jumped out of my chest. It was my ring. Just slipped off onto the floor and started rolling towards the drain. I was lucky enough to get my foot to it in time to kick it away but man, that gave me a fright! I am a very sentimental person and get attached to things very easily. This ring means a lot to me. So I am so glad it didn't go down the drain. Think I will just start taking it off from now. Have you dropped or nearly dropped something down the drain?

Back when I was married, my wife dropped her wedding ring down the drain in the kitchen sink. Fortunately, I know some basic plumbing skills, so I was able to crawl under the sink and disconnect the plumbing pipes and find the ring in the sink trap.

@VivaLaDani13 Thanks for the vote of confidence on my handyman skills, but I'm really not that talented! Other than disconnecting the drain trap under a sink, I really know absolutely nothing about plumbing! lol

My sister-in-law lost her engagement ring down a drain. I don't think they ever found it. You were lucky!

Oh what a godo thing you were able to stop the ring from going down the drain. I have dropped a few things down the drain but nothing like a ring.

@VivaLaDani13 I am happy for you that you did not lose it as it came from someone special. It is dang hard to get into that drain when you drop something down it.

@Marcyaz I know! I am so happy it didn't go down. I wear this all the time and would feel lost without it. I'm glad you haven't dropped anything special down the drain. Can be quite tricky to get things back!

I dropped an earring in the washbasin once - my son had to take the U-bend apart to find it for me. Glad yours didn't go down the drain.

One of our cats really loves shiny things. I forgot that and left a crystal bracelet on the bathroom sink edge. Hubby had quite the time taking the drain underneath apart. He managed to get the bracelet out- thank God it had not gone further, into the city sewer system

Question: Does the drain has mouth that wide that things could slip pass it? Don't you have a steel/ metal net thingy over it to prevent things going down there?

@Daljinder It has the holes in it that's wide enough for a ring to get through.

I think a pinky ring did drop down the drain, but it wasn't that bad of losing it. But I have dropped one of my rings in the washing machine before. It was on at the time thank goodness. I also lost an earring in the floor vent.
