Up one hill and down another ...

Wednesday was my self-proclaimed day for Venom and as I send out 1 partial and 4 fulls to those agents. I did hear back from one again on the same day, while she was closed to submissions for the summer. I knew and worried she would pass, because of the word count issue she mentioned last year. And still, she wouldn't read, unless I cut 19 K, when I couldn't go any longer to cut.
For novels from 100,000-109,000 K, according to Writer's Digest's Guide of Literary Agents, say it's okay and safe, though it might too long. Her preference is 90 K and referenced her blog to me. But I did thank her with that pass. I still have lucky seven left to hear from on Venom this summer and into early fall.
For now, I'm taking a break from Venom and wait to see if I land a mentor with the Pitch Wars contest (the last one I'm doing for Venom for real). If I do get feedback and don't make the cut or short-listed, I might consider sending it out to my online crit list for feedback on where to cut words only. If I do get short-listed like I did last year with one request or end up with an edit letter, I'll go back to work on it one more time.
In other edit cave news, I did cut 6 K from my first pass revisions for Diplomatic Immunity. This weekend, I'll start 2nd pass with new ideas from previous beta feedback to make it 1000% better and have it ready by late September.
As for Upwork, I sent in my article early and on time on Wednesday morning. As of yesterday afternoon, my contract ended since it was approved. I would get paid next week
. Now I'm waiting to land another assignment as I speak...

It sounds like you have been very busy. I am doing client work at Article Document and I am making decent money.

@KristenH Once you get to be a journalist it is fabulous. I like working with them a lot. You have to be an expert to get the journalist assignments. Check out their website, I am earning very well right now.

@BelleStarr Cool. I've searched for article writing/journalism at Upwork and didn't see much other than for travel writing. Any stringer jobs for entry level? I might take a look later this week.

You are so busy writing, and hope you can get more assignments soon; and yes, the payments! Good luck!

Thanks so much. I did get one this weekend which would keep me busy this week on my free time.

keep going with it - the cut of 19k sounds a lot to take out so if you do, don't lose the text removed as it could be used in other writing projects instead - good luck

I hope so. I have my own lucky seven agents left while I'll wait.
